Hi.

I found many of the radio messages to be very irrilevant. And there is a lot of message early in the war but hardley not any at late war.
There is also many bad entries in the file that i try to fix.

Iam trying to spread it out more and add/change some reports whit more action in them.

Also that some information tells a story/happening/event.

let say some sub made contact whit a convoy. order is carried out to shadow it. Then some other subs get order to intercept and engage. Then message how thos sub succeded. Then SoS message from sinking ships. And ships picking up survivors.

Another small episode i lighted up was 2 ships that hited a mine. Both request assistance. later a message apear that a boat have pcked upp survivours from thos 2 boats. A day later the same ship that picked up the survivours is also hited by a mine and sunk whit all hands lost.

I also increase the message probability so you will recive this messages.

i aim to have at least 15 messages for each month during the hole war.

Some changes are done also how a message is shown or to whom its adressed
Like this:
@BdU HQ@^Officer only^| I changed the BdU to have HQ in thier message.
Also more officers only message.

Some ships that are not in convoy are sending out pure sos messages.
A typical message can look like this:

@Open Freq, 500 k/cs.@|1939/12/01|SOS SOS SOS CQ DE 5TER 5TER 5TER BT SOS 281751Z M/V DAHOMIAN TAKING ON WATER ENGINE ROOM FLOODED POSN 13.73N 152.55W NEED IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE AR MASTER SOS

Convoy ships are reporting in a different way. They use a four-letter code. For example, SSSS, would indicate an attack by U-boats, AAAA for aircraft, and QQQQ for armed surface raiders.

I also remove open frequency sending from uboats coz that is not realistic they they use that frequency.

This is a major work and of course iam not changing any of the important messages. And iam usng GWX latest patch in this matter and also integrated order mod.
So it gona take quite some time before iam done whit this but i hope it will create more action to the messages you recive.

So far after 2 days i have only manage to complete year 1939 that consist of 4 month.

Another thing i will look into is to try and create New orders for you. But its imposible to know what sub number you are in and on what part of the world you currently are.

But i will figure out somehow to adress it.

Things that i have in my mind is to give you and order that will be like a second order. You have your gridpatrol order but then after that is completed. You might be order to nearest port for intelligence reports. or to take out the navy ships that might be in there or patrol crafts around the harbour.
You can also be order to nearest shore and patrol it for some 30 miles length.
Or/and dependant on where you are. If you find a convoy that is in attack range of aircraft you are order to shadow it and send contact reports and then you might be able to se an airstrike ( for this i need to change airstrike probability for sendign a contact report.

U might not get a second order coz it wont be in for every month but there is a possibility that you might get one.

But i need some help here. Tips about what an second order can consist of, your goal.

And i would appreciate if someone could post some links to real war message, how it could look like. Not stories but just pure messages. Ive been looking around but i have hard to find some.

Vikinger.

PS: I will not incoperate the enigma simulator in this coz its just to complicated even if its possible.

DS:

Il update here about the progress also:

1939: DONE
1940: Work in progress 10%
1941: Work in progress 0%
1942: Work in progress 0%
1943: Work in progress 0%
1944: Work in progress 0%
1945: Work in progress 0%

Ive put this on halt for now on. I got another work to do whit the damage textures.
Will continue whit this when iam done whit the other.

I think what you have is a great idea, I have yet to encounter a ship of any kind in a grid I've been assigned to ?! I wish you success with this endeavour.
I suppose a secondary order could consist of 'sweep nearby Grid 'X' whilst returning to Base if fuel permits as intelligence has reported ..' etc.

With all due respect, wasn't it "RRR" (and thus "RRRR") for raiders, not "QQQ"? Or is it different for convoys? Or are both "QQQ" and "RRR" messages sent when under attack by raiders?

Other than that, I really like what you are doing. Here's hoping you'll fix the typos in the messages, too. There were quite a few last time I checked.

I incorporated GWX's radiolog into IrishRed's radiolog, been using IrishRed's since RUB.

Here's the sources he listed in his work, maybe they can help you out.

http://www.U-boat.net - where much of this info came from. (Plus the Uboat.net's featured "Conning tower"
http://www.uboatwaffe.net
http://www.uboatarchive.net - This website run by Jerry Mason has English translation of the BdU KTB, highly reccomend.
Books used:

Hitler's U-Boat War : The Hunters, 1939-1942 - Clay Blair
Hitler's U-Boat War: The Hunted, 1942-1945 - Clay Blair
U-Boat Operations of the Second World War, volume 2: U511 - UIT25 - Kenneth Wynn
U-Boat Operations of the Second World War, volume 1: U1 - U510 - Kenneth Wynn

I know a lot of people complain about the radiolog messages but I find they help the immersion factor for me.

Good luck and looking forward to your mod.

I really dont know about that. I found on some site the historical letters that was used in convoys. So i asume that the QQQQ is correct. And my guess is that it is the code word for surface ships.
Also they used 4 letters instead of 3 that is listed in the messages ingame

The RadioLog mod was originally created by IrishRed, and was meant to be more atmospheric and immersive by including many real messages on the dates they were sent. There are hardly any in the late-war period because it never got finished. Change it all you want; I'll still use it.

I cant change the gridpatrol you are assigned to by just redo some messages. You will stillf ace thaos empty grid squares you are assigend to.
But i can do some secondary orders that will give you some options than just search around in plain luck to find something. I mean it gives you a second goal to archive than just patrol a pointless square for 24 hours.

And thx for the secondary mission tip. i shall se if i can came up to a solution to it. problem is that i dont know what your homebase is but it can might consist of different hunting areas , then you can choose for your self dependant witch is closest to you.

Oki maybe i shall dl that and take a look into it,, but my guess is that the message he did are allready in use in the message file.

At 1943 the subs got order to have more strictly radio silence and dont report rubish. reason for this was the allied navys new tracking system to snap up radio messages and send an airstrike. But even if the messages dont contain so much sub to BdU messages, it will still be open frequency message from other merchants.
And also important message about the war outcome.

Iam doing some research for each year about historical events and will try to incoperate that into the messages.

Captain H. L. Upton, DSC, ADC, RNR, master of the Rangitane (http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/name-207096.html), who was promptly on the bridge, at once instructed the wireless office to broadcast the ‘suspicious ship’ message (QQQQ) and if the raiders opened fire (which he expected would happen, as soon as the wireless was used) to send the ‘raider’ message (RRRR). He also ordered ‘utmost speed’ on the engines and warned the engine-room that an attack by raiders was imminent. He made alterations of course to bring his ship stern on to that raider which seemed to be in the best position to open fire. He also ordered the crew of the defensive gun aft to close up and be ready for action. After signalling by morse lamp ordering the Rangitane (http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/name-207096.html) to stop and not to use her wireless, the Orion (http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/name-110460.html) switched on a searchlight and both she and the Komet (http://www.nzetc.org/tm/scholarly/name-110459.html) commenced firing.

This is something that always bugged me (bugs me) a little as it was so under utilized. A big thumbs up on this project!

I would love to see the messages have actual relevance in game. Kind of like the convoy report messages. For example, a message reports ships picking up survivors and then that ship will actually be in the area the message describes should you go to investigate. In that case the ship could be stationary to simulate the pickup.
