View Full Version : Game crashes
About 50% of my games end up in a random crash. Almost always around 1-2 hours into the play. I run debug output and check the debug listing, but there is never any clue to why the game is crashing... I'm wondering if its a database error of some sort because I do tweak the database and doctrine files to my liking...
... still, does anyone know any way to get to the bottom of game crashes? Is there a crash log?

If you bring up your MMC, you can go into the computer management console and look under system tools-event viewer-application. It should be listed with a big red x on the left side.
To get an MMC, click start-run. Type MMC. Click File-Add snapin. Then click add again and select computer management. Click add-finish-close-close-ok...in that order. Click File-save as and then I usually put it on my desktop for future reference.
Thanks. Next time I get a crash I'll give it a try to see what I can see.

There's no need to look for the next time. You can see all the way back to when you installed your OS.:up:
However...it does point to your database tweakin'.
Most of the fault navalsimengine.dll, a few fault dangerouswaters.exe, and one faults unknown...
... hmm... makes me wonder if its not something inherent to the engine that's crashing. Seems like if it was the db, then the error would be consistent everytime with a certain game actions (a launching plane, detonating torp, activated sensor, etc), but its not... 50% of games I can complete without a hitch, the other 50% is crash and burn.
ahh the wonders of windows programming.

You need to look at the FAQ (http://www.sonalystscombatsims.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=371) on SCS forum website. It shows you to post your system specs, along with the error. If you see the navalsimengine.dll and dangeruoswaters.exe, you should be able to post the complete error. They will need the fault address. You could even take a screenshot of your error and post it here.
Ok, now that I'm playing again... those pesky crashes are back... and keeping me from completing some long missions. Nothing is more annoying that spending 2 hours to get into position, let loose the first salvo, and the *CRASH*...:damn:
While I wait for my SCS forum confirmation email to come. Here's the crash data that I'm getting.

Copy all of your save games to a "safe" file (one that the uninstaller will not delete), and re-install DW, and place your save files back where they belong (but it may be different because I cannot upgrade to 1.04; I'm stuck at 1.00, but give it a try anyway.) I've had this problem before. Hard to see what it is because the faulting module is unkown.
