View Full Version : Navigation Map background texture?

Does anyone know how to remove the background textures from the navigational map? You know, the light background textures that make it look like a well-used map. I find them a little distracting. And in my opinion it interferes with determining the depth on the nav map.

You can take a look in SH3/Data/Manu/Gui
The file you are looking for is called StrTactMap.tga
You can make a new one for your self if u like whit some paint program that can handle TGA files.
The file is a simple backround image in size of 1025x512

Is the StrTactMap.tga file a mask like the red mask for the periscope/UZO?
Will the game play without the StrTactMap file? Because all I want to do is get rid of the old map textures on the nav map.
If you can find it, there is a mod called "CSO Clean Map Mod" that does what you want.

I think it is a mask file so if you remove it i assume you either will get a complete white background or black.
However i made up 4 new ones for you. its just a plain background whit one colour in it.
You can choose and download the one you prefer. or if you dont like either of them just give me a shout and il make some in the colour you prefer :)
But here we go.
First one is made up from the colour that is in your current file.

Second is a bit brighter but same colour scheme as the first.

Third is in bluish colour.

Fourth is in lighter bluish colour.

I made the download so when you unzip it (to a prefered folder of your choose)you will get one folder called Tactical Map1.
Whitin that map is 4 other folders called TactMap1 , Tactmap2, Tactmap 3, TactMap4.
Thos represent in order each colour scheme ive posted here.
Take the map/folder you prefer and place it whitin your SH3/mod directory and then you can use JSGME to enable it.
And here is the download for ya.

Vikinger.
EDIT/
I uploaded some new maps. Saw that some had downloaded the old ones.
I just put some paper textures to the new ones so it look like fine paper. It can look a little better ingame. :)
But the dl link is for the new ones. And i didnt bother to do some readme/disclamer thing to it coz i made this mostley for von Zelda. :P
PS: The last one, Tactmap4 light blue looks best ingame coz its easier to se the light green gridlines and also the depth on the nav map.

A really nice AND FREE program is Deep Paint 2.0
It is nearly a 60 meg down load though.
Right Hemisphere made it.
They're the ones who have Deep Paint 3d.
A program that allows you to paint on 3d objects! :o

Np my friend. Iam glad i could be to some help.
In fact i got so fond of the light blue version so i use it for my self now :)
I realized that the game take place during 1939-45. :D So what is the reason to have an paper/map that looks like it is 70 years old. I guess on the sub that they did have new charts and that looked new at that time.

This is a great idea, and a good fix as well!
It happened to me more than once, that I setup a course to a deeper part in the area (to lie in wait for enemies to disappear), only to find out that it was dirt on the map instead of a darker area. :damn:
