View Full Version : GWX radar ranges?

Can someone tell me what the 2 ranges of the GWX-radar FuMO-29 are?
The scales on the monitor are a bit hard to see, imo.
I know the coverage on each side is around +/-10degr.

The scales on the radar monitor are in hectometers (hm).

1 hectometer = 100 meters.

So to get the distance in meters, you have to multiply the value on the scale by 100.

That answers my question to some degree, thx. :)

I was wondering, how the range-switch works, but I guess the scale-values can give me the answer?
I thought I read somewhere, that the max-range is around 16km, but I was unsure about that.
Forgot where I read it, allthough I did a good search.

I think they are the same as stock (have to check on that)

FUMO29 7500 mts.
FUMO30 7500 mts.
FUMO64 8000 mts.
FUMO64 8000 mts.

Paatjor,
Ref is correct, the GWX ranges are the same as stock for the FuMO29, FuMO30 and FuMO6x. The FuMO391 was changed from max-range of 10000 to 9500.

I'm puzzled...

Take a look at the scales of a FuMO-29:

http://www.61shap.org/pilots/Paajtor/SHIII/FuMO29_1a.jpg (http://www.61shap.org/pilots/Paajtor/SHIII/FuMO29_1.jpg)

Short Range = 300m - 4500m
Long Range = 1000m - 15000m

So it's obvious that the "Entfernungsskala"-switch picks either the left or the right scale.
And there's a range between 1000 and 4500, that you can see a target on both scales, right?

So you guys are telling me, that the whole scale-display makes no sense, and my standard radar-range is 7500m, regardless of what range-selection?

The values I posted are the max ranges of each radar type, I don't know what values the game uses for the different ranges in the radar station, possibly it's hard coded, but if you select the longest range in the radar the max distance is the value I posted before

Throw up a test mission with ships at different ranges and see what happens?

The ranges we were referring to are the maximum ranges for the radar ie. How far away you can detect something with that radar (EX. 7500 meters with a FuMO29).

The scale you select has nothing to do with how far away you can actually DETECT something, but rather how it is DISPLAYED to you. Think of the left scale as "zoomed in" and the right scale as "zoomed out". It is just like on the F5 nav map. As you "zoom in" less of the area around you is displayed, but it's easier to see small changes your target makes in position. As you "zoom out" you can see more of the area around you but small changes your target makes to its position (moving 100 meters further away for example) are hard to make out. In each case, how far away you can actually DETECT the target is not affected by how far in or out you are zoomed.

The only difference is that on the F5 map you have many different levels of zoom, on the radar screen you just have two, "zoomed in" (the left scale) and "zoomed out (the right scale).

Ok, I know enough, thx.
