View Full Version : Precision Periscope mod - doesn't work!

Hi, I installed Redwines Precision Periscope mod & zoom works great, the bearing works ok but the red lines (vernier I think) does nothing, the commands_en.cfg must be right as the zoom works, the periscope & other tga's must be ok as the periscope view/station has changed to display the vernier, the only thing I can think that may be a problem is the menu_1024_768.ini file.
I manually edited/replaced the 3 doc file contents into mine, as I have a lot of mods here, but these lines appear to do nothing,:-? I even did it twice incase I stuffed something, can anyone give any clues as to what is wrong, or what the edited version of menu_1024_768.ini file actually does?
Many thanks.
Edit:
I discovered that the 3 files:
Group G26.doc
Group G28.doc
Group G2B.doc
may be incorrect for example in the G28 group there is a duplicate having different group names:

[G28 I6]
Name=TopLeft
Type=1030;Static bmp
ItemID=0x28130001
ParentID=0x28130000

[G28 I15]

Color=0x96000050
Materials=1
Display=2;Linear
Mat 0=data/menu/gui/redmask2.tga

TexFmt=0x29

In my existing group:

[G28 I6]

Type=1026;Menu group

Something aint right!

What do yo means with .... "but the red lines (vernier I think) does nothing..."

I cant understand well, sorry my bad english.

The red lines must bo or not, they can not works bad, they are or they are not, thats all, they are simply a draw.

Red lines are not related to the 1024 ini.

They are simply drawed over the persicope background.

Please if you need help i am here waiting.

Be sure you follow all the steps one by one, the manual editing of the 1024 was performed with an old 1024 ini file, there was no other mods changing it in that time, may be the group corresponding for the periscopes is not the same in new version of this file due to a some modification made by another mod...

In example... into the mod, the Observation pericope background is into the group [G2B I130], just check if into you file is this grpoup wich contains the observation periscope background or was changed by another mod.

Just check that.

Hi Red, I did PM you with a better explanation, hoping you would read that first. The problem has to be the "menu_1024_768.ini" file as if I delete the 3 groups,
Group G26, Group G28, & Group G2B then copy and paste the 3 from the files:
Group G26.doc
Group G28.doc
Group G2B.doc
Save, then run game, the overall effect is no difference. I can't see the point of editing the "menu_1024_768.ini" file. My version must be very different, do you have a list of the individual groups to edit rather than the 3 complete blocks?:)
I think the Group numbering must be different on mine, for example in the "Group G28.doc" the block starts with [G28 I1] and ends with [G28 I123], mine however ends with [G28 I114].:-?
Sorry to be a pest.:oops:

No... you are welcome.

The problem is this mod is one of the first done for the sim, i need to recheck all the mod, rewally i o not remember what i done any more, was too much time ago.

Any way, the problem is you have a modified 1024.ini, my group ends with [G28 I123] and your ends with [G28 I114].

To be sure the mod works, .... only to test, just replace the complete 1024.ini, and check if you can see the vernier lines.

Back up your 1024.ini at first.

I need to recheck the mod and made a "line by line" list of changes for you. I have not too much tiem yet. You can start it, open in two notepad files and compare.

Good if you can identify wich line you had loss from yours 114 up to the 123 into the mod....

I will try the complete file and do a check group by group between the 2 files, I do know that with the changes the Large Rec manual slideout no longer functions.:-?
The reason I mentioned the red lines is that I thought that must be the vernier, I don't actually know what or where the vernier is.:doh:
Standby for testing....Menu Item not found then CTD! So much for that test!

I thought I'd better post before I hit the sack!:D
It was the Large Rec Manual that was causing the problems, the following is the final Periscope view:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/Bearing.jpg
I assume the "Vernier" is actually the Bearing displayed in higher precision, and the alterations to menu_1024_768.ini just moves the display to line up with the "Red" scale.:yep: Is this correct?
Thanks for your patience Red.:up:

Good to know it works now !

The system is based on the confrontation of 10 lines on one side and another 10 lines infront, but this time the red lines are made in the same distance or space than 9 of the above lines.

Then, checking wich red line is coincident with one of the above black lines you can add or red the decimals of degree (tens).

I can se you had used the bearing chart with marks half by half degrees.

May be better for use with the red lines the bearing chart wich has not halfs, and is marked one by one degree.

But it is at your pleasure.

Dont worry about to ask some thing, you are welcome.

Sorry if my explanation is not enougth good, may some body with a better english can explain for you the use of the red lines to read tens.
