Hello there,
For those that are navigating manually, and don't want to be tempted to click the waypoint tool if they're completely lost, heres the Disabled GPS/Waypoint tool.

Have fun
Gwx compatible. Changed maptool entries for the waypoint tool in the Menu_1023.768 ini and made the maptools waypoint icon transparent
Download here (http://files.filefront.com//;6565316;;/)
This mod needs to be used together with the invisible uboat icon on the navmap for succesful 'manual' navigation.

Thank you :)
Worth trying, even though with manual navigation I might not come back from next patrol...

How would you navigate manually? Is there a sextant mod or something?

Advise you to search forum (several threads on the matter) and watch on You Tube "Dantenoc's Hardcore Navigation in SH3"

Yep, have to say thats one of the problems with forums.....so damn hard to find info after a couple of days. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a central repository of sorts..or even sub-classifications under this topic (no pun intended).
Oh well....

You installed the mod and it didn 't work ? or you couldn't get it to download ?
After clicking the download screen, you need to enter a 3 digit number there, and it will continue to the download. (you see a countdown timer of 25 seconds)

Ok chaps, here's the download (http://files.filefront.com//;6565316;;/) from filefront.
and linked on top of page to filefront as well. Have fun and let me know if u have any trouble. Works fine on my system with GWX installed.
Should normally work with vanilla SH3 too.
Heres how I removed the entry:
I just removed the entry for the waypointtool in the Menu_1023.768 ini and made the icon for the waypoint tool transparent in the maptools.tga file.
To navigate the Kiel canal (for those who need to start their patrol there) you could use the method in this (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=104002) thread to skip the painful task of navigating the Kiel canal manually each time.
This would be superb to manually navigate and still have the option of using this Ingress and Egress icon to speed up the kiel canal transfer.

That's a possibility. not that you wouldn't find your way back , but If you accidentally 'bump' into land using TC you might have some repairs on your hands.
Use the depthsounder accoringly, if you have no visibility to do a sextant reading using the Ctrl-Click method. (for more on this topic, please search the forums) like Corsair pointed out.
