GWX type II u-boat torpedo count

Hi to you all.

I'm new to SH3, GWX and these forums, so forgive me if this topic has already been discussed. I've tried to find the answer with Search utility but no metter how many keywords I've used, the number of returned posts was always overwhelming.

So the question is: why type II u-boats have 3 spare torpedos instead of 2 in GWX? Is there a reason for it? AFAIK it's not historically accurate.

This has been touched on ever since the stock game came out; no-one for sure can tell whether a type 2 carried 5 or 6 torps, some source show 2 reloads and others 3 reloads. I believe the GWX team quoted their source for doing 3 reloads when asked in a previous post, and it was a well known site.

I know u-boat.net has the type 2 with 2 reloads

The answer to your question depends on which source you feel is the more accurate...I am at work right now but IIRC here is one example which states 5 were carried...I could be wrong here but IIRC there may have been a Finnish variant that carried 6. :hmm:

I have found only one site which states that type II u-boats carried 6 torpedos, and it's this site: http://www.uboataces.com/uboat-type-ii.shtml

Every single other site I've found opts for 5. So you can say that 5 torp version outgoogles 6 torp one. ;) Think I'm gonna set torpedo count in type II back to 5...

Simple solution,

Don't fire the sixth torpedo!!

I thnk it was noted that while normal torpedo loadout was 5 - many crews carried a 6th torp lashed down in the torp room

Especially as they were having so many duds\prem explosions etc

From what I've read, Bigboywooly's response is absolutely correct. The standard loadout was 5 but a sixth could be carried, but it was really in the way. Not sure of the source but I'm positive I've read this.

Aces Of The Deep had 6, and there was a discussion on that years ago. During the days when GWX was still in development I suggested that since they were going with six they should mention this in the manual, and state how to change it back to five for those of us who felt it should be that way. Don't know if it was done, though.

Good idea regarding the mention in the manual.

Clay Blair is my source for the Type II torpedo loadout. I consider him to be the final arbiter / definitive source wherever conflicting data may play a factor in decision making for GWX.
