How do I change ship spoted range

I remember having to pick a viewable range of 8nm, 16nm light and dark. I picked the 16nm (not sure which, light/ dark). I’m playing at 100% real and believe that my watch crew spots ships way to early. What is the setting that is the most real and how do I switch it at this point. I’m on patrol as well. :)

If you want realistic spotting distances you have to use the 8Km. If you use the 16Km you still have realistic spotting distances but they are doubled. Obviously that applies for the enemy as well. In GWX there is no distinction between light and dark atmosphere. Also don't forget that the spotting range depends on the crew efficiency, qualifications and the weather.

The 'realistic' viewing range is 8Km :yep:
Some folk (myself included) prefer the 16Km version...using this (via JSGME) means your crew may spot vessels 16Km away in near total darkness !!...not very realistic IMO :nope:

Ummm, actually guys... on a good, calm, bright and clear day... you can spot ships at 32 Km with the naked eye in real life.:|\\

A Naked eye you say :o Well you had better put some clothes on before you get a chill or get arrested :p
But yeah regarding viewing ranges you would see the smoke before you would actually spot the ship back then

Wait till your back in base then use JSGME :yep:

Well I don't know about anyone else but my watch officer can't bloody see further than 4km it's 1945 he's got all the medals, my radar will pick up ships from 8km out am useing the 8km in gwx on a clear night cloudless he can only see around 4km out in daylight clear no clouds calm seas the furthist he ever spotted a ship is 8.2KM.
