In my campaign of about 4 years (started in '39, now in early '43), I've only ran into one major "warship", a cruiser back in the early 40s.
Since then.. other than the normal destroyers/corvettes etc., I haven't run into one. No carriers.. no nuttin.
What gives?:o
Runnin GWX btw. Am I missin something?
Espically when I go into major harbors (such as Scapa Flow) and no warships are at dock. Just a small merchant/few destroyers.

Just in normal convoys?
Isn't it true (espically after the US got involved) that there were "convoys" of just warships patrolling the atlantic?
Wish I could meet up with some of the big boys.:o

If you're looking for capital ships you can find them:
1. In their harbours depending on the period and the date.
2. In convoys and Task Forces where they are randomly generated
3. In areas where there are historical missions (like the Bismark) and they depend on the period and date.

I'm currently on a patrol in June of 40 at Grid AM53 and ran into a convoy with the "Rodney" included. Unfortunately, I had only 2 forward eels remaining. I got in great position to make a salvo shot at 1500m, but one ended up being a dud, damn it. I've been trying to follow, but I fear she is going to get away.
Oh well. :arrgh!:

Except SH3Gen you can check the manual. If you are in the areas of operation during particular periods you can catch capital ships.
I'm including a list of the moored capital ships in the stock SH3 (most of them are still there in GWX)
1939/09/15 - 1939/10/10, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1939/10/04 - 1939/10/14, Battleship Revenge, Scapa Flow
1939/11/01 - 1940/01/05, Battleship Nelson, Loch Ewe
1940/03/01 - 1940/05/01, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1940/03/07 - 1940/04/25, Aircraft Carrier Illustrious, Scapa Flow
1940/04/01 - 1940/06/01, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1940/05/17 - End of war, Fiji Light Cruiser, Loch Ewe
1940/05/24 - 1940/06/30, Dido Light Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1940/12/11 - 1940/12/31, Battleship King George V, Scapa Flow
1941/02/01 - 1941/02/17, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1941/02/10 - 1941/03/20, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1942/02/03 - 1942/02/28, Battleship King George V, Scapa FlowOverlapping dates mean there are 2 ships in the same harbor, ex. Oct. 9 1939 both Revenge and Aux. Cruiser are in Scapa Flow

I've done 4 patrol in GWX from the start of 39 and come across a southampton in a convoy (sunk) a dido in a convoy (missed it!) and met up with a taskforce heading to lock Ewe made up of 5 destroyers, a fiji, southampton and a illustrious carrier (carrier sunk, southampton damaged).
They are out there, so hang in there!
BTW I snak the lightship (one of AG124's creations) off the cost of Belfast the other day! She was all lit up (cabin light as well as warning lights) despite the fact she was enemy!

Hi!
Some lightships remained lit to assist friendly ships, even in war. Of course, they also carried radar to help surveill the local waters... :)
U-boats generally left lightships alone: countries generally removed all the navigation aids along their coastlines once war began, so anything that helped a U-boat navigate near a hostile shore and avoid things like shoal water were more valuable afloat.
