View Full Version : Minor GWX glitches

Hi,
I finally had some time to play around with GWX and noticed some minor things.
1.
Last night my watch spoted a warship and after they reported it someone (I suppose the WO) said: "Berechne Lösung für die achteren Rohre" (calculating sollution for aft tubes). That would have been nice if the ship actually approached from behind or anyone actually calculated a firing sollution, but otherwise I'm not sure why the WO would say this.
2.
I don't remember when this happened, but I also got a report of "horche vorwärts, horche achtern" (sweeping forward, sweeping aft) from my sonar operator when there was no clear indication of why he would do so, also as far as I could tell he didn't actually do it.
3.
Neither the de_help.txt nor the de_menu.txt files seem to have the lines in them which give you the extra information on pressing F1 (about enemies, resupply etc.).
1. and 2. are rather insignificant, but 3. should be probably looked into for the next GWX update.

Noted.
It is unlikely that we can fix #1 or #2. This appears to be a stock SH3 problem not caused by GWX modifications.
#3... Will see what we can do.

IIRC #2 was already there from the stock game. :hmm:

Nope, we can. And i did for GW1.1.
dunno how this bug found his way back to GWX!?
anyway, the way to fix is:
1. go to "X:\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg"
2. search/open the "message_we.cfg"
3. search this and delete the orange part...

They were fluff messages added at somepoint because someone wanted extra vocalization and thought it sounded cool in german im guessing. Personnaly i removed that stuff ages ago, it just annoyed me.

Removing them is easy... What I was referring to is FIXING them.

If they are removed, it is fixed!? whats the problem?
Yeah, I do not think they have a functionality at all. I have never heard that dialogue used in the game, except with these bugs. I think it's residual stuff from non-implemented features.

Thats exactly what I think...
Already fixed that for me, so in the next GWX update this annoying bug is history...
I'm pretty sure "horche bug, horche achter" comes up when being fired upon. Why not change the sound file it points to, to fix it, and have it use the "Wir werden angeschossen" file instead?

There is a very strong wind sound for the IIA is extremely loud inside the control room. Sounds like you are outside in a storm. I noticed it in one of the single player missions.
I remember it being posted before as a bug outside GWX. but, I think GWX might have beefed up the storm wind sounds that might overdo it for this SH3 bug.
You might want to tone this sound down a little in upcomming patch.
Did you alt+tab before that sound, mate?

Can't remember, I might have. I recently have been playing in windowed mode.

A couple of minor things:
A) Tunis is showing as Axis in August 1940 (should be Neutral);
B) Entered Tobruk in August 1940: An Italian armed tug was firing at a marauding British destroyer (very cool!) but...
Two Italian Destroyers in the harbour were firing away flat out at three harbour fortifications to the North on the Coast. They didn't manage to hit them and the guns in the "forts" couldnt traverse around to shoot back. Not sure what was going on there!
But these are very minor issues - and the mod is OUTSTANDING!

Number one, as properly translated i have NEVER heard before... GWX that is
It means 100% that the spotted ship is a DD or some such bugger, and will shoot at yah if yer not going away soon.
dont mind hearing it tho, wish i could have more of this ... OGG files linked together anyone?

Yes Tunis should show as French till 9th Nov 42 when German paratroopers took it from the French
Will take a look at the guns issue
Land units cant be hit anyway but will check out dates etc

"bug" nr.3 is caused by SH3 commander (i heard). dunno why...
No it's not caused by SH3Cmdr. GWX shipped with an OLD German de_help.txt file. See my thread "over yonder" seeking a German translation of the latest English one. ;)

Ouch...
Ok, thats really embarressing that you are telling this to ME...
Do you need a complete translation of the .txt or just parts? I will get to work immediately! (if you send it to me...)
Sorry, must have missed that!?

You have PM. ;)
Found this a bit strange as I've never seen this before in SHIII. It's not all that important to me but thought I'd let Jaeson and/or the Devs know about it.

At the end of my 1st patrol I went into Vigo Spain to resupply from the Bessel. My career start was Wilhelmshaven Aug 3,1940. After Sept'40 subs are transferred to Lorient. Being with the Bessel from Aug 23rd to Sept 15th for repairs, paint and resupply I started my 2nd patrol which said return to Lorient, as expected. But the above pops up in SHIII Cmdr 2.7. I click Ok and continue on with a Null patrol. I'd changed the Null to BE66 but it didn't stay that way. I spent a week at sea sinking one Merchant and missing a large Convoy. Saying the heck with it, I head for Lorient and spend 7 days in base. Now on my 3rd patrol I keep getting the same mssg everytime I start. That goes for all saves while in this 3rd patrol too. Is this a bug with SHIII or SHIII Cmdr?

I had this effect in GW 1.1a but it was due to the fact that I hadn't start a career with GW. I used the one I had started before in the stock game. I don't think SH3Cmd is to blame here.

Correct. GT182 is definately getting his GWXs and SH3Cmdrs confused lately! The screenshot is most definately from SH3, not SH3Cmdr! :rotfl:
FYI SH3Cmdr does not change base allocation. It reads whatever is in the game.
This problem is usually caused by continuing careers created with a previous mod to the one currently being run (like what you said Mel). It's caused by conflicting base settings, locations and times. I don't know if you run multiple SH3 installations GT182, but if so, then I would bet that you are running the wrong career in the wrong installation.
Otherwise, just keep clicking the message and continue your career. I'm sure it will correct itself at some point...
...Or start a new career... ;)

I seem to get problem 1. quite often if I get detected by enemy escorts.
Sorry guys but this is a clean install of SHIII/1.4b with GWX and SHIII Cmdr 2.7. It's not accociated with Vanilla SHIII at all.
I should have mentioned GWX but seeing this is a GWX minor bug thread I figured you catch that. ;) Only SHIII GWX is showing this.

I have had the thing in stock and GW1
Not GWX yet
I just hit ok and sail on back
Perhaps Bdu has a special job for me
I think I know the problem. Even tho you're supposed to be transfered from Wilhelmshaven after Sept 1, 1940, you still need to return there. Then you'll be transfered to Lorient. I'll head back there after patroling my assigned grid and see what happens. I'ts a SHIII bug and not associated with SHIII Cmdr, as far as I can see so far. ;)
Sorry to get anyone worked up over it. It's just one of those things I guess. No fault of anyone's but mine.

Not your fault lol but SH3
Yep, sure is. But that's the way it goes I guess. No big deal. ;)

:hmm: hmmmm...Ah yes...the wonderful Mrs. Miggins and her lovely Pie Shop! I do seem to recall her hot pie was especially nice, ...but she was a bit younger then!
Now, I'm off to the dock for ship's inspection, as I am ordered to sail on this evening tide.
