I just read an article on the slightly absurd micro-nation of Sealand (search for it on Wikipedia), and discovered that the "country" is built on something called a "Sea Fort". After checking Wiki' further for info on these forts, I got to wondering how it comes no one knows about these things, and if someone could model them for Silent Hunter III.

They look positively awesome, and, along with oil derricks, they'd make for a nice addition, I think (sans player ability to hijack one and declare it a sovereign nation:p).

Good point, have a few of these babies outside some port everyone likes to frequent and see how it goes!!! I wonder how effective these were?

I wonder if it could be possible to wait until a British ship was below one of those behemoths with the thin "legs", for then to torpedo the "legs" to make the fort topple on top of the poor vessel:o?

Hi all,

Off the Thames Estuary you will find groups of these, they were gun forts holding AAA guns to catch the Luftwaffe on their way to London.

During the war there were reports of troops going mad aboard these - long way from home, terrible conditions - and constantly being shot at!

I recently had a closer look at these - I don't live far away, and we saw them a short way off from the boat. Didn't get too close, weather was lousy. They certainly look menacing - from a distance reminds me of "War of the Worlds"......the tripods.

They remind me of AT-ATs, too.

How 'bout this one?

I remember the days where you could get away with anything if you had a proxy server in Sealand.
Do they still run proxy servers there?

As you see some know about these things. ;)

You can now buy Sealand!! So if you want to flee your country, set up an off shore bank, or be your own king, you can now do it!

You just have to pay a kings ransom for it! (as well as fight off the occasional boarding party now and then!)

I was gonna say they would be easy enough to model and ill have a go, but I think Serg was a little quicker to hit the mark than me.:rotfl:

Hmmm, heck we might model some of those too! Very cool.

They look rather forbidding too... like prisons!

I could see people going stir-crazy in those! Still, these would be a cool addition especially if these are placed historically were they once stood or still do for that matter.

Really great that you're working on one of those things, Serg!

Sorry to dissappoint you but currently I am not working on the fort. I put it in some time ago as soon as the model was available, just for the look of it, and did not do much since. Every fort location needs 3D model height adjustment therefore I got bored.
