I have recently installed the Dangerous Waters and by God, it's much I have to learn from scratch again. I have Subcommand, but haven't been playing for ages.

You're in for a treat but do get LwAmi from Bills SubGuru its a great mod ! Luftwolf and Amizaur (mainly) have altered and developed many things in vanilla and pushed the envelope closer to reality.

If your a bubblehead try out Amis excellent 'advanced torp control' - it goes way beyond the same in SCX.

You're right in that the learning curve for this this is very, very steep. But ultimately worthwhile.
