Does anybody know of a good tutorial on how to make models for SHIII using 3D Studio max?
Or wings 3D?

Good call Seth
I could do with one for Wings too
Surely someone could write down the basics
After all there are some great shipbuilders on here
You can try google, If you are serious I would stongly recomend purchasing a book on 3DS max to learn the fundementals if you a complete begineer to 3d modelling.
I was thinking of writing an aircraft modelling tutorial for max, I suggest you start with aircraft, as they are releltivly easy to model compared to ships... I been doing max for just under a year at the moment im working on a ww2 submarine, its very tough believe me especially the bow area.
Max will take you a few months to get the hang of, (you get out what you put in) -but its worth it.

Thanx JU
Wings is free though lol and much simpler - I think - to use
Might have to reinstall max and have a go again :damn:
Your tutorial would be most welcome mate
never tried wings 3d so i cant comment on how good or bad its is, but Max is excellent.

Wings 3D is a good little program, but it doesnt have the ability to animate or good renderer. I read that some modellers use Wings 3D to make the model, then they import it into 3D studio to "finish" the job...Thats good for a freeware program as 3D wings..:yep::up:
I really want to learn this, even if it takes a month or two. The possibilities you have if you know your way around this, is awesome.!

Take your time, JU_88.. Personally i am scared senseless whenever i go to the dentist... (I hope it was the dentist that ripped you tooth out, and not someone else....)
Yep the dentist, they gave me 1 filling and 1 extraction, in two weeks I gotta have the same done on the other side of my mouth....nice heh.
I working on a Beaufort model at the moment, Ill try and make screenies as i go and start peicing that tutorial together, to be honest i just started but im begining to realise its quite a lot of work! So be patient.

I dont see why its worth doing this, i would have though it would be easier to make the whole thing in max...

Yeah, i agree, but for some weird reason they made it in wings..
Seth do you have a basic undertsnading of max, such as manipulating verts and polys within in editable mesh and poly sub object mode?
Do does the above sound like chinese to you mate?

Same here
Its only the basics I need to know
Like how to keep the damn texture
I find wings3d a lot easier to use but lose the textures in that also
UV mapping scares the sh*t outta me :rotfl:

I've stopped messing with wings anymore due to this---I can't get the texturing and UV mapping thing through my thick skull:nope: .
If someone could write/explain an easy way to understand/manipulate mapping they would be a king of kings.
