View Full Version : Really small problem with GWX

Let's do the routine first;) :

I did a clean install of SH3, patched to 1.4 and than installed GWX (I use the 16 km mod, Captain America's icons, No medal on crew, Late War sensors and I've installed 23. Dec. Patch). I'm also using SH3C and randomly SH3Gen.

Everything is fine and seems to work fine except one thing: If I hit F1 I don't get
# NAVIGATION CONTROLS
# STATION CONTROLS
# OTHER CONTROLS
# ENEMIES OF GERMANY
# RESUPPLY INFO
# UBOATs & DISTANCE INFO
# FLOTILLA NEWS I
# FLOTILLA NEWS II

But just the normal stuff e.g. which button I must hit to crash dive. Does anybody why? Before I forget it: downloaded GWX from Torrent, so the files should not be corrupted, right?

Try removing Captain America's icons and Late War sensors, first one, launch sh3, check if it corrects the problem, and if not remove the other and recheck,if the problem is in one of them please post which one is causing it so we can fix it.

I'll try that, thanx.

I believe you need to enable the 23rd fix first b4 you enable any of the other optional mods.

And of course, as always, you must be in base, not on patrol and if you use Commander, you must do a rollback first.

Note: When installing the game from scratch, I always test the game b4 installing anything else. Then if all goes well, you can install GWX (check files with MD5compare) etc..

Did what you told me to do, ref, but no changes to my problem. Concerning your statement, fredbass: I had the problem even befor the 23. Dec. patch, so I think that can't be it.

Already done that before posting that topic and I didn't find any en_help.txt or de_help.txt which means that SH3C is not the problem.
Maybe my GWX files are corrupt?

It's possible, I'm at work now so I can't send you the files, but I'm sure someone can upload them for you.

That would be really great, cause you need "clean" files to do the MD5Compare thingy:p,right?

Try removing Captain America's icons and Late War sensors, first one, launch sh3, check if it corrects the problem, and if not remove the other and recheck,if the problem is in one of them please post which one is causing it so we can fix it.
FYI I checked all _help.txt files that ship with GWX yesterday when the issue was first raised and they are the same, ie correct, ones.

The files are coming from somewhere "outside" of GWX.

@hyperion2206

Dodgy installation files can be ruled out by MD5 comparing the GWX exe and bin files which you have already d/l in order to install GWX. Although, if you did not get any installation errors, I would think they'd be OK...but re-check anyway.

Also, perhaps you can post the contents of your en_help.txt file here so we can have a look and possibly determine the source. And with that, state if you are running multiple installations of SH3 with other mods installed.

My personal view is to start afresh and reinstall the lot, this time paying very close attention to the _help.txt files. Check them after installing GWX to make sure they are right, then run GWX and test in-game to doubly confirm. If they are OK, add the optional mods and test again. Lastly, test with SH3Cmdr (just don't forget to rollback SH3Cmdr PRIOR to reinstalling the lot ;)). If the files change at any point, then it should be easier to find the cause.

I think this approach will be much quicker and more efficient than trying to work backwards now.

Found the en_help.txt file and everything looks like it should be I guess (but you're the pro ;) ) :

You wanted to know if I use multi installs and the answe is no. So I guess I have to uinstall everything and before reinstalling I have to rollback SH3C, right? However I've got a final question: How do I compare files with MD5? I didn't do it after d/l because I've read that the GWX files are 100% ok. Thank you very much for your help!

EDIT: Could this be the thing that causes my problems (de_help.text):

#120 first is the separator character and the number after it represents tab length (in pixels)

Ahh, you're using the de_help.txt file (stands to reason as you are from Germany ;) - your use of the English text above threw me).

Problem solved - just checked and noticed that GWX has shipped with an old German translation of the help file. It needs to be updated to reflect the contents of the current English one.

Sorry, I was aiming that sentence to one of the German GWX devs. ;)

Hopefully the updated file will form part of the next minor update (end of Jan).

Ahhh, ok. Well, thank you very much for your help!:rock: Now that I know that it is just a minor thing I can enjoy SH3 again without having to fear that one the files are corrupt.;)
