View Full Version : Question about 2 sounds in GWX

Hi!

Just to make it clear from the beginning, I did a complete reinstall of SH3 plus GWX just to check, and this is the mods on top of GWX, I'm using:

GWX 16 atmosphere
GWX Late War Sensors Antennas
GWX Dec 23rd Corrections
GWX Integrated Orders

But none of these should interfere, I suppose!?

Well, it's about these two wav files from SH3\data\Sound:
Submarine_diesel_exterior.wav
Submarine_electric_exterior.wav

I'm leaving Kiel, I go to the external camera, and then I hear the electric sound from my u-boat at the surface, not the diesel sound...

Is it a feature of GWX that I hear the electric sound in harbours, like it was possible in SH2 to use the electrics at the surface, and should I just wait untill I get to the ocean, and am I the only one who can hear this? Or is it a miswritten part of Sh3.sdl. Standing at the bridge, I also can't really hear the diesel sound - it does sound more like the electric sound! If I submerge into the water, I do hear the diesel, but that's another wav file... (Submarine_diesel_underwater.wav)

Before I reinstalled GWX, I just started SH3 in stock version leaving Kiel and checked both bridge and external view, and there was no problem: there I heard the diesel sound!

So please comments from both users and Kpt. Lehmann, which according to the manual is the responsible for the SDL file, which I suppose means the Sh3.sdl file!

Hmm.. that´s odd. It definitely isnt a feature as I can hear the diesel sound. :hmm:

I just wondered:

could the sound card have anything to do with it?

I think not, cause I tried also using the sound exit from my motherboard > same problem!

The sound card is pretty old (oct. 2002), but the motherboard is brand new (nov. 2006)

Me too.

Me too - what?
No problem or same problem?

Sorry, mate, I meant I have no problem. The soundcard shouldn`t have anything to do with it, as its just playing an ogg file.

I'm not sure how your sounds became reversed. Mine are working as expected... and I DL the same files everyone is using.

The SDL file that comes with GWX is configured properly for GWX.

Worst case scenario, you can re-name your sound files to correct them if you are unable to sort out the problem.

Well, I checked with JoneSoft MD5Compare if my download was corrupted or anything, but this program said the files were fine!

I was wondering, if someone could upload his/her Sh3.sdl file for me somewhere, so I could enable this one alone just to check. My file is btw dated nov 18th 2006 00h47m. If yours is the same (plus minus one hour) it should be the same file!

Hmmm... would a redownload of the mod really be necessary if JoneSoft MD5Compare says the files are fine?
Truely this is also really odd, if I am the only one....

EDIT:
quoting a part of the Sh3.sdl file in my GWX install (read in notepad):
"SoundInfo % Name Submarine.UB9.Engine.ElectricEx ) WaveName Submarine_electric_exterior.wav
IsFolder Loop Play Volume ÈB VolumeVar Pitch €? PitchVar Is3D DopplerFactor MinRadius €A MaxRadius zD Category Priority € Delay 62 SoundInfo # Name submarine.UB9.Engine.DieselEx ' WaveName Submarine_diesel_exterior.wav IsFolder Loop Play Volume ¾B VolumeVar Pitch €? PitchVar Is3D DopplerFactor MinRadius €A MaxRadius zD
Category Priority € Delay 84"

As I see it, it IS as it's supposed to be!
Do other files than Sh3.sdl control environmental sounds?

No, just the SDL.

You might try a re-install and see if that fixes your problem.

I have done a new install, but removed the SH3 folder from my documents first, and the problem still exists, partially anyway!
However, if I go to external view, place myself directly above the bridge looking downwards, while on pause, and then let the u-boat sail out of the picture at TC1, I do hear the diesel sound at first, until about half of the u-boat behind the bridge has gone by, then at the outer point of the u-boat I hear the electric sound. There is a fade out-fade up effect of both sounds! This fade out-fade up effect isn't there in stock version!

Could you please tell me, which program you have used to edit the sdl file? Do you know of other programs to edit this file? Anvart once edited the sdl file for me as a test, so don't know, if you used the same program!

Another sound issue:
I have been messing with one of the crew cfg files, but all mods I test, I enable with JSGME, so if an error occur, it should be enough to disable the test mod, and all should work as before! However, I have experienced something very odd, while testing and afterwards disabling a mod (crew cfg file): the voices of all stations have dissapeared: LI, 1WO, 2WO, NAV, SONAR, RADIO. Any idea how this can occur, if JSGME has been used?
