View Full Version : Which is your favorite sub in the game?
Hey, Everyone
My favorite sub would have to be the type XXI, from a technical standpoint it is simply amazing IMHO.
Which btw is there any mod or anything that allows you to get the type XXI sub right off the bat in career mode? I know you can get the sub around 1944 but by then the war is almost over and that doesn't give you much time to break her in.

Ethier the VIIB or C or IXC/40 or IXD2. because they fit for my type.

The VIIC is my choice.
if I was actually in WW2 I would want to be on a IID.
Why?
Because they dive faster than any other boat, stay in shallow waters, weren't sent on risky patrols and came back in a couple of weeks at most.
That means they are relatively safe from aircraft and lone destroyers and you get plenty of time in port. The crews where all well trained as well because they had almost all trained before the war and done peacetime patrols.
Anything for the easy life. ;)

The VIIB/C
I like the manouverability and the fast diving time. It`s also the true image of a u-boat.

Assuming the files are in place...
IXC/40.
More fuel than an IXC, just as many torpedo's, and not as big as an IXD2.
However, ive given up long range patrols. Im quite happy in the med, putting around in VIIC at the moment. Quick patrols by comparision, and the theater is kinda fun.

Going to go with the popular one so far;
I just love my Type VIIC - Just for it's extra kit capabilities later into the war and its crash dive timings:up:
Dönitz was a VIIC-fan himself.

This a tough one as i really get attached to my VIIB that i have at the start of my career. Slick and dives nice and fast and has a good range of nice skins to go with it:yep: but i really the the bigger Type IXC and the IXD2 loads more torpedos longer range and more chance of finding danger. It is a real tough one.:hmm: :hmm:

BDU gave me a VIIB, still on patrol with it, my 5th.. and no idea when I can have another one.. well, maybe if I speak to uncle Rommel, he might help. :-)

1) VIIC
2) IXD2
3) XXI
4) IID
VIIC is good... Short patrol... Fast diving speed... Many fish
IXD2 is due to its large load of fish and fuel... A set back is the diving speed
XXI is due to its advanced technogy... Set back is impossible to obtain one (except using trainners or use SH3 commander to give me this boat when I join Bdu)
IID is due to its short patrol time and I can do a patrol every month... unlike IXB... which I need to crawl to American coast and crawl back...
Love the VIIC for it's versatility.

Well I had a XIB that I added all the extras to and hated because it didn't have the range. I went back 11 patrols and reloaded the patrol before I upgraded.
This time I upgraded to a VIIC and attempted again to get into Scapa Flow. I had been driven off several times in my IX. This On my lucky 13th patrol I sank the King George and totaled over 101.000 tons.
Guess I'll refuel and rearm in Wilhemshaven and try Loch Ewe.

I do like the Type IID.
What would be ideal is if there were a Type XXIII in the game. Very maneuverable, fast, but a short range boat with just 2 eels.
A seehund and a biber would be cool also...

I bounce back and forth between the VIIC and the IXC, depending on my mood so I guess you could say those are my favorites. I have a definate least favorite, though: I hate the II's and will not use them. Just not enough torpedos for me!

whats the difference between a IXB and an IXC coz the only difference i can see is the IXC has a slower dive time, does the IXC carry more fish?

A bit more fuel and thus more range. I believe this is coded into the game.

IXB's range is 12,000 KM @ 10 kts
IXC's range is 13,450 KM @ 10 Kts and has 1 more spare torpedo.
What can it be? VIIc!
VIIc simply because itīs the most beautiful submarine ever made. I also prefer the Atlantic battle and donīt like long distance travelling.
In the game, I like the Type II interior best, because it really gives you this "being there" feeling, itīs so cramped and crowded. The Type VII and IX interiors offer way too ample space inside, Iīve been to the real one , U-995, in Laboe near Kiel, and you really feel confined when inside.
Cheers, AS
VIIC for me, The only other sub i use is the VIIB:up:

Well if you install SH3 Commander, then with each new patrol, you have the option of changing your assigned patrol grid to avoid taking those long trips if you don't want to.

I was talking about SH3's / GWX implentation of it. Not everything about type IX uboats is represented historically correct. Another oopsy is the conning towers availablity. GWX addressed some of it, but not all of it. You still get turm IX/2 too early.
edit: oh yea, according to these blueprints,
http://www.9teuflottille.de/site/lexikon/boote/typ_ixd2_g.html
the IXD2 had 26 torpedo's, not 24.

Which = more time on station, especially if your in a convoy route

I'm into my 13th. patrol and conning an IXC.. Got to love all those fish & the 8 flak barrels (1 quad on the deck & 2 doubles in the nest) Routinely end the patrols with 15+ planes shot down.. The only con is the s l o w dive time

If I'm going after lone ships, then hand me an IXD2. Enough fuel to spend all my time in the middle of the Atlantic, hunting the big loners.
If I'm going raiding on a port, IID, provided it's in Wilm. I hate Kiel. With a passion.

It helps to have 4 qualified flak gunners plus a flak qualified conning officer. I still dive from B24's, Wellingtons and large groups of aircraft..
