I'd be grateful for some help with installing GWX. I'm pretty new to SH3, never mind Grey Wolves.

This is what I did. I decided that the way to install GWX was

Uninstalled SH3 and removed Starforce with the removal tool
Fresh install of SH3
Immediately patched to version 1.4b (the correct one)
I wasn't sure if I should run SH3 onece before instaling GWX, but decided not to, in order to have the cleanest possible install
Installed GWX immediately after patching to 1.4bBUT - the installation of GWX failed, with a warning message saying that it coudn't overwrite a particular ship file (can't remember which - sorry).

So, if someone could give me the correct sequence, I'd be rally grateful. I have re-downloaded all the GWX file and MD5 Compare has shown the files to be correct.

Thanks for any help.

Finally, as a matter of interest, can GWX work with the No-CD version/hack of 1.4b and if so, at what point would I replace the normal .exe with the no-cd version? In case anybody is worried, I do have the original. I don't know whether the community approves of the hack, or not. I just don't like to risk precious disks by having to use them evertime I play, but if this is not approved of, I wouldn't use it.

Thanks for your help (and season's greetings!)

Martin

sounded correct maybe a random error or your GWX is corrupted
Did you check the GWX with the optional md5compare?

Uninstall
Delete the Silent Hunter III directory from your program files directory.

install
patch
gwx

is the correct optimal order.

Also rename\delete the SH3 folder in my documents

Thanks everyone. It maybe that one of my first file downloads were corrupted. Ive checked the newly downloaded files with MD5 Compare, and they are fine. I'll also make sure everything is deleted before I start again.

Thanks again.

PS. Anyone have any thoughts on the no-cd exec v1.4, or should I just stick to keeping the official patch, and keeping my disk inthe drive during play? I'll don't know if it's possible to use no-cd or even if it's considered acceptable.

Thanks once more.

Hi matey, the No-CD hack for SH3 is one of those things forbidden to speak of in the forum rules here at Subsim. I guess you missed that part. Sorry mate.

However, welcome to Subsim... here is your potato peeler! ;)

What you do on your own computer is nobody's business, but as the Kpt said we do not discuss this subject here. Subsim has a very good relationship with developers and we do not want to alienate them.

I glad that you're up and running with GWX, sink em all.:sunny:

Thanks again for all your help. I am of course of course a legitimate owner, and I fully understand why some things are not appropriate for discussion on the board, and the need to ensure that we keep our support for the developers. I just hope they don't develop SH4 so well, that my computer chokes! :rotfl:

People have been very friendly, but if you've got hopes that I'll sink anything, you might be disappointed! I'm just hoping for a bit of sunbathing on the deck, doing water colours of the passing ships.

Thanks again
Martin
