Hi, well I'd love to say that I have had success finding/adapting a log book program for SH3 but no such luck!:cry: However I have edited a KTB version that I am quite happy with & find it probably better than having a built in one as this way I can use with other U-Boat sims!:D Some pictures of the books created:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/Books.jpg
Notice that I placed the date covering the entire war length as the one book can be used for a whole carreer.
The cover layout:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/FinalCover1Landscape.jpg
The layout of the pages, I used a laser printer & printed on both sides:

These images are no good for templates, you can get them here if you want:

Many thanks to those whom have helped in collecting pictures & data.
Cheers.

Hi Reece

Nice work.It looks nearly genuine, but you have 2 write error´s in your BdU Book.
I can speak German better than English.:)
You should exchange the following words to complete your good work:

"vom 1939-1945" to "von 1939-1945"

"Ortes" to "Ort" or "Angabe des Ortes"

Hi, all & thanks for the positive feedback, Preuss, you are right, I can't speak or read German, my blood line is 100% German but can't speak it except for a few words that I shouldn't speak!:rotfl:
The words on the Cover are actually what is taken off an original KTB only the date (1939 ~ 1945) has been changed, what is "VOM" & "VON" in English ? (I thought it was BOM) :88) I will change Ortes to Ort, as this I changed to fit in the given space, not easy!
Will wait for your reply before updating!:up:
Cheers.
PS. Camaero, I made my own "Long Arm Stapler out of a standard one" please don't ask to put a picture up as this could have people rolling on the floor in histerics!!

Anyone know the dimensions of the original books...such as, were they the same size as the Soldbuchs?

You do realize you MUST post a picture now right? I was just at the store looking for a long arm stapler but they were a bit too much for me. Lets see your work! ;)

Moin(Hi) Reece

"von/vom" means "of" or "from". The difference between the two words is grammatical.;)

When you have only a year you write:
"von 1939-1945"

if you have a more exact date you write:
"vom 01.09.1939-08.05.1945"

To fit the given space you can write "Position" or "Standort" instead of "Ort". The best sentence is "Angabe des Ortes". That is the real sentence in the German diary, but to long for the space. :)

Someone can´t read the german diary? No problem. Here the translation of the diary:

Datum = date
Uhrzeit = time

Ort = location
Wind = wind speed
Wetter = weather
Seegang = sea state
Beleuchtung = brightness
Sichtigkeit der Luft = visibility
Mondschein = moonlight
usw(und so weiter) = and so on

Vorkommnisse = Occurrences

Sehr Geehrt Kameraden!

I photocopied a bunch of real KTB's from the archives in Freiburg and modelled my SH III ones on them, fonts and all.

I have Word templates for KTB, FTB, Torpedo Shooting outcomes, Enigma forms, etc.

One that I designed and created, was for recording various data from an attack so that I could draw a plot diagram afterwards. Worked very well I might add.

Anyone who would like any of these is welcome to contact me on hmsironduke@ozemail.com.au (hmsironduke@ozemail.com.au) and I will forward them to you.

I can send you a pdf file of one early patrol and you can see what they look like.

Incidentally, on several originals, the heading in column 2 is simply "Ort Wetter."

One slight hiccup may be whether or not you have the particular fonts I have used, but I can send them too if needed.

Be advised that these have been set up for European/Australian A4 paper which is slightly longer ana tad wider than standard US paper, but they should work. Let me know!

Wind = wind force
I think wind speed is the proper translation

Seegang = swell

I would say Seegang = sea state or what ?

I used WWI style diaries in SHIII with after action reports with experiance summaries and traffic observations and stuff.

Hey Preuss ich sehe du bist auch aus Bremen :)

In welchem Stadteil denn ?

Moin(Hi) Deamon

Your translation is better. I improve it in my post.
I´m surprised about the sentence "Sichtigkeit der Luft". Is that sentence in use in the german marine today?
