I just noticed that my crew won't man the deck gun in choppy seas can anyone tell me if the all weather guns mod is compatible with GWX.
thanks in advance.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't see why it shouldn't be compatible. If you want your crew to man the deck gun in stormy weather you can manually edit the cfg files.

If not, you can change the file yourself.

SHIII\data\submarine\NSS_Uboat[your type here]\NSS_Uboat[your type here].cfg

The line you want is in the [Properties] section and is StormConditions=*

The wind speed can be set in meters/sec and rain can be set on a decimal scale.

Be careful not to adjust too high or there will be some negative side effects such as the men not having rain gear in a storm and possibly some other little things.

Oh yes obviously ANY mod you include without the GWX Team's aproval is at your own risk. That doesn't mean that the GWX Team is against all other mods but since they have not been tested in GWX there is a significant probability for bugs to appear. For anything else that goes wrong in GWX blame the Beta Testers;) :D :D

with GWX, your sub is more sensitive to waves and the surge than ever.
So, even in 7m/s wind, it's difficult to aim correctly.

Well this is due to certain factors... the 88mm on your sub should not be confused with the 88mm used in AA/AT versions, the 88mm AA/AT was a high velocity cannon and only had to contend with the motion of the aircraft/land vehicle and wind due to it being a static, where as the 88mm on your sub is a low velocity cannon and has to contend with your subs movement even when static ( due to the motion of the ocean ) the movement of the target, the wind and also the lower velocity.
The closer you are to the target the more chance you have in hitting it..i say 1500m or less to get maximum impact on the target.
Also The sub DG was mainly used to finish off targets. So if you have a Target that is a sitting duck ( moving very slowly/dead in the water ), don't waste another torp on the target, if you have no escorts around surface and finish the target off with the DG below the water line. Later in the war approach from the front when merchie dosn't have DG's placed on the forward deck and attack from there..however when they have DG's both forward and aft..stay around the 1000m mark and keep moving, they will have a harder time hitting you than you hitting them due to you being a smaller moving target..hope that helps

Agree here.

I did this my self. First i dont se any point to not be able to use the gun in heavy rain. Second i raised storm conditon value to 14. So the AA guns can be used , most as airdefence. But if the storm goes over 15 i didnt want too have the option to use them.

This is my values:

StormConditions=14,1.0;max wind speed [m/s], max rain intensity [0,1]

I also write protect the file cuz i noticed, and i think it is the Sh3 Commander that want to overwrite the files if you use that prg.

If you've torpedoed a armed merchant and you want to finish it off, I'd vote for a second torpedo, why enter into a gun duel where one lucky shot will ruin your whole day.

I agree totally. In RL even one 88mm shell (or even less) on the right spot might render the Uboat unable to dive safely. Thatīs why DGs bacame almost obsolete and were removed from the Uboats. No point in having them when you cannot use them...

Well said,

On the other hand, as the great KL Charley Chicken of the sea, I just target ships sailing independently, if they are unarmed, I let her rip with the DG to finish them off. I suppose that is why I would like a SHV to be a WW1 simulator, as it would suit my style of play.

Move over Otto Kretschmer, hello Lothar von Arnauld de la Periere.

194 ships 450,000 tons, all according to prize rules. Now THAT I would like to simulate.

Well we do have the guns and the AA guns on the subs and i dont want to limit me to some game mechanism the wont allow me to use them.

I want to have the option as a captian of the u-boat to choose when i find it suitable to use the guns.

Of course i wouldnt go into a gun duel or use them in any unrealistic maner, but its up to me to decide when i want to use them, not the game.

Now that is realism, dont ya think :)

It's a good way to look at the game, Vikinger. :hmm::yep:

Undoubtedly,

It would be nice if the game better modelled the negative consequences of certain choices better. For example, using the DG in very high seas should result in a certain chance of having crew washed overboard IMO.

Well I thought about this and perhaps your right I could do without the DG However i do want to use my AA guns just in case I get caught napping on the surface.

After reading the Scapa Flow log, I always nap at 100m :)

Its still a good question though.
