View Full Version : Who has problems with GWX?

I do:

1) The developers has altered the size of the Command Room, Nav Map, etc. because it is too big for a 1028x768 screen. The bottom half of the above is cut off, so the time cannot be read and the faces of the Officers on the bottom left are cut in half. I suggest to you that there was NOTHING wrong with the size of the various screens with either GW1.1a or SH3 original. So why change it? So therefore, you have not developed it to suit everyone's video card.

2) The night scenes are TOO dark. The idea that the dev team did in GW1.1a and now GWX is that you made the night scenes too dark. Your excuse is that you wanted it realistic and were not able to make the night dark suitable for everyone's monitor. Well I suggest that you should not have made it sooooo dark. After all, it is only a game and messing around with the developement of the original from UBISOFT because you wanted RL situations. Well, if you can't make it so that it is compatable with everyone's video card, then you didn't do your job properly when developing a program that is not compatable with the various video cards, use and never mind the REAL LIFE situations.

Rob

EDIT: And I'm not going to go out and purchase a new moitor or video card just to fit your games (GW1.1a and now GWX). I had to purchase various parts to make my computer suitable for the original SH3 by Ubisoft. Not everyone has the financial resourses to do such things.

Sounds to me like you have a card issue!!!!! Did you attempt to resize your screen with those funny little buttons they put on them? Give that a try.

What kind of card to you have? God helps those that help themselves. Let see if we can help you on this!

No idea what you are on about in Q1 mine is ok and is no different to GW1.1

True some ppl do find the nights too dark
Others think it is just right

You cant please all of the ppl all of the time Rob

No one is forcing you to use GW or GWX Rob
Try NYGM
Try UWAC
Or go back to stock

Not every mod is for everybody

Thanks AVGWarhawk for you resonable response to my post. My screen is a "Slim TFT LCD Monitor" and my card is a GeForce 6600.

The response by the person below your post just gives a simple "If you don't like it, go back and play the stock game" is not a suitable answer.

It looks like there will be no further notices of responses to this question because the Head People have decided to disallow it.

Sorry that I did something that was improper??? But I needed answers and if I get put in the Brig, or banished, then I'm sorry that they see it necessary to take such action.

1..Command Room,Nav Map etc on my system look just fine.Nothing wrong with them.

2..Night time is just right on my Samsung LCD monitor.Like was said your monitor has little buttons on it that change brightness.Or use your video cards options to adjust the brightness to what you want. This is not a GWX problem...you can fix the issue yourself in 2 minutes or less with what is right in front of you built into your monitor and video card.

I am using a 6800 video card and a Samsung 930B LCD.

You say your using a LCD monitor..what is its native resolution?
That could also have something to do with the problem.I had to change my resolution in SH3 to fit my monitors native res of 1280x1024.

Well, I'll have to look around for the type of monitor you have.

You're beeing totally unfair in your statements, your first post about we modding the size of the Command Room, Nav Map, etc. is totally incorrect, if you take the time to look at the posts about GWX problems, you'll realize that you're the only one with such a problem, thus making more likelly that it's a problem on your system or with your install, as for the second problem, the night beeing too dark, it's a STOCK problem with sh3 with some monitor/graphic board combinations, and if you're going to blame somebody then try searching on the video settings for a brightness/gamma adjustment which is normal on most games, and you'll know who to blame.

I have a Nvidia 6200 oc 256mb. Night time is perfect for me. Attempt to adjust digital brilliance/contrast/brightness on the card. Also attempt this with the monitor itself.

Resize your screen display. I had to do that with my card. Once done, it will stay that way when the game is started.

Sounds to me like some minor adjustments will take care of it

Its a mod, did you pay for it? -because you are behaving as if you want some 'customer service'.
You can ask for advice, but dont start telling people their answers are not suitable or acceptable, Ill tell you now its not 'suitable' for you to complain in such a pompouse manner. You will be given help if you ask nicley, if you just want to rant and rave you will be ignored.

Bigboywooly is spot on, if you dont like it, you can lump it.

Why would anybody who could use the phrase "messing around with the development of the original from UBISOFT" actually install a mod?

bigboywooly
12-19-06, 01:49 PM
I didnt mean if you dont like it lump it
( Thanx Ju :damn: :rotfl: )

What i meant was its a free mod Rob
You can choose to use it or choose not to
The dark nights dont affect everybody

No one is expecting you to upgrade your system if you dont want to for the sake of a mod

When I first installed GW on my system it ran like a pig and I unistalled it
Simple
After a video upgrade I tried again and it was ok
My system is below Ubi's specs for stock SH3 and plays GWX fine
A little stutter in port but eh some things you put up with

If it bothered me so much I would unistall
Well I wouldnt I would upgrade my comp :rotfl:

You cant expect anyone from GWX to jump through a hoop to fix your problem when you start with a statement like you did

Now it sounds like statement one is of your making nothing to do with GWX
The dark sky is another matter and may be due to your monitor\graphics card or just the way you have it set up

And its a bit unfair to say "no further notices of responses to this question because the Head People have decided to disallow it"

My post count has jumped around 150 since GWX was released helping ppl with similar problems
To such an extent I havent even played the damn thing yet

robj250
12-19-06, 02:07 PM
I stated that the Head People would not allow any responses was because the thread had a letter orange letter with an arrow on it and there no figures in the right columns, that's all I meant be that.

I dug up an old monitor I had in the house and tried it and I had the same problem.

So, I guess I'll have to do as you say, either go with what I have or play the others. That's a real shame because I really was looking forward to playing GWX.

Sorry if I offended any one, it was just that I was so disappointed on the results.

Yes Rob... you need to slow down and be patient.

Honestly, this community has intensively helped you over the months you've been here.

You had problems of all sorts with GW 1.1a and we helped you fix them now didn't we?

Your comments in your first post are a slap in the face of the entire GWX dev team... and your expectation of service is not one we are required to keep. We do it as a courtesy for all as best as we can.

We made this mod for any who choose to use it for FREE.

In short... many of the problems you've posted over the months have been either due to your system and/or impatience on your part.

My advice to you is to calm down... and address your problems one at a time... not 3-8 at a time.

Now, with everything you've got going on... I recommend that you start from scratch.

FIRST however,

Do a disk cleanup
Defrag your HD
Run your spyware scanners
Run a FULL SYSTEM scan for viruses
Turn off ALL unnecessary background programs that use system resources.

Second, come back with a brand new attitude because a new day will dawn no matter what.

Third, make a COMPLETELY fresh install of Silent Hunter III patched to 1.4b... followed by DELETING your "SH3" folder in "My Documents" because most of the time the data stored there breaks stuff in GWX.

Fourth, calm down some more and be grateful for ALL the modders who have given FREELY of their FREE TIME... (Time that no-one gets to use twice...) to make your game richer and more full.

Merry Christmas Rob. Hang in there.

Boris
12-19-06, 02:16 PM
Rob, I can almost guarantee that your first problem is not GWX related but, monitor or video card related. I bet that if you install the stock version you will still have the same issue, and if you take the time to make a screenshot (would be really helpful), then you would see that you in fact took a picture of the whole thing.

robj250
12-19-06, 02:20 PM
Sorry Kapt. Lehmann.

Some of your statements are not entirely true. but never-the-less I will do what you suggest and what I can to try and fix the problem and if nothing works, then I'll have no choice but to take it as it is because it is FREE and I do appreciate all the work that the development team put into it, or as I have been told, go back to SH3 if I can't afford to change my system again.

Aside from this problem are there a minimum hardware requirements to run GWX?

I'm asking 'cause I'm struggling since to days and don't get GWX to run, it always crashed to desktop and I think I did anything according to the manual (e.g. Deinstall SH3, old Cmdr and mods, fresh SH3+patches, deleted My documents/SH3, checked download with MD5 etc.)

I'm pretty sure it's a hardware problem, I just wanna ask if anyone with less HW power than me is able to run GWX, as this would be an indication that something's wrong with my PC.

My specs are:

AMD XP 2500+
1.83 GHz
512 MB RAM
Nivida GF 6800 with 182MB

(Yes, I know: I'm on the bottom line, call me a "Barracuda"-Class Boat;) )

Thanks,

You're ow on the ram amount, but it shouldn't cause a ctd, just make the game slow on fps, try increasing the size of the paging file.

I get stutter in port but thats my fault as I like the full harbour traffic :rotfl:

Nights are a lot darker for me too than stock but I think this makes the game more RL because from what I understand nights out in the middle of the atlantic were damn near black anyway, not in a graphics glitch sort of way but an enviromental sort, it is all just a matter of flavor for yourself.

I hope that you get your computer issues worked out because I think you will enjoy GWX for all its EYE CANDY

Hi Boris. Thanks for responding. I did not have a "big screen" issue with either the stock SH3 or TGW1.1a. The game fit the monitor perfectly. I will take a snap of what I'm talking about and post it and then I'll be busy doing what Kpt. Lehmann suggests.

You're kidding right? All we're doing on the forums these days is helping people sort out issues and answering queries. Soup for all!

Remember when I said in the first post, that I could not "Apply Changes" because the game froze, (actually the computer froze). Well THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. After I selected Use FUll Screen amd tried to Apply the changes, I NEVER GOT THE FULL SCREEN, THEREFORE THE PROBLEM IS MENTIONED WAS CAUSED BY MY BEING ABLE TO SAVE THE CHANGES. I restarted the computer, and when the choices came up, I went in and noticed that Use Full Screen was not checked, so I checked it again and tried to apply change AND IT WORKED, THE TOOL BAR DISAPPEARED AND I WAS ABLE TO SEE WHAT THE TOOLBAR HAD COVERED UP.

I am deeply ashamed and owe everone my humbel and sincere apologies.

However, the night screen was not quite as good in TGW, but I can live with it.

AGAIN, I SAY, MY SINCERE APOLOGIES TO EVERY ONE, BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS BECAUSE MY COMPUTER WOULD NOT LET ME APPLY CHANGES.

I REALLY DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO TO MAKE IT UP TO YOUR GUYS.

WHEN BORIS SUGGESTED THAT I MAKE SOME SNAPS SHOWING THE PROBLEM, SO I RAN TGW1.1A AND LOOKED IN THE CHOICES AND SAW THAT FULL SCREEN HAD A CHECK MARK IN IT. SO I RAN GWX AND I HAD THE TOOL BAR SHOWING UNTIL I GOT TO THE OPTIONS AND NOTICED THAT FULL SCREEN WAS NOT CHECKED. SO I PUT A CHECK MARK IN IT AND PRAYED AND TRIED TO SAVE THE CHANGES, AND IT DID AND WHEN I RAN THE GAME, THE TOOL BAL WAS GONE AND I COULD SEE THE FULL SCREEN. :damn: :damn: :damn: :damn:

THANKS EVERYONE FOR BEING SO PATIENT WITH ME AND IF IT WAS NOT FOR ASKING FOR A SNAP OF WHAT WAS WRONG, I NOTICED THE ERROR.

AGAIN, MY HUMBLE APOLOGIES TO EVERYONE. DARN COMPUTER :damn: :damn: :damn:
I DON'T KNOW WHY IT LET ME APPLY CHANGES THIS TIME :hmm:

THANKS TO EVERYONE WHO TRIED TO HELP

If you are unlucky enough to disagree with the majority of the members in any discussion they want you banned.
That's not true. We are all happy to discuss differences. One can have his opinions others have theirs. That's the way life is. I don't thing anyone want you or anyone else banned for his opinions. It's the way of presenting them that matters.

That was clear to me after a particular discussion yesterday, when I also received a couple of bad language PMs...if it isn't enough what they were allowed to post in that thread, I think it's about time that some members in here starts to grow up.
Let's not go back to this point. That thread is closed. Let's keep it close. I would also suggest you are less provocative. Accusing others as immature is not the way forward

Now you can't even make a negative comment about GWX without getting shot at.
That's totally untrue. No one accused anyone about GWX. Someone said something wrong about Rob. What do you want us to do. Sit down and let him take on the easy and soft target? I don't know if that's your opinion of a forum but that's defenatelly not mine. Rob has helath problems, he is 70 years old and he wanted help. This someone made fun of him. My upbringing does not allow me to sit in the sidelines. If that kind of behaviour is OK with you that's your problem.

You don't have to work hard getting me banned, I'm on my way outta here anyway. I don't like what's going on in these forums.
Thanks for stopping by

GWX problems?
Nonsense....all perfec ...if you disagree...beng! Banned

You're just out of the brig, and you alread are trolling around are we?

Well maybe the mods must consider to keelhaul you.

because you cant get along with other people can we?

Why are you threatening him?

In my point of view this member hits the nail on its head when it comes to these forums because I got exactly the same feeling about the whole deal in here.

If you are unlucky enough to disagree with the majority of the members in any discussion they want you banned. That was clear to me after a particular discussion yesterday, when I also received a couple of bad language PMs...if it isn't enough what they were allowed to post in that thread, I think it's about time that some members in here starts to grow up.

Now you can't even make a negative comment about GWX without getting shot at. You don't have to work hard getting me banned, I'm on my way outta here anyway. I don't like what's going on in these forums.

BYE :rotfl:

@ Subwolf

I shall not be drawn into another exchange with you. It is clear to me that you gravitate towards areas where you can cause trouble and instigate arguments.

I wish you the best in whatever you decide to do.:dead:

I am thinking on trying the Light The Night mod, and see if it is compatible with GWX. There are ways to change the things you liked in previous mods with mini mods. As long as they are compatible with GWX. So you may be able to copy the stock or GW 1.1 NavMap into GWX, and there are atleast 4 different crew icons out there. Just because GWX has things you don't like, doesn't mean that they are permanently there.

Actually, I feel sorry for Gizzmoe these days.

I remember when I first came to these forums, and I was all bigeyed by the nice mood here.

Recently it has gone to the crapper, and mostly because of inconsiderate people like SubWolf (sorry I didn`t got the chance to join in on the lynching-party in the other thread, SubWolf, some of the things you said there are just sickening)

And at some time I guess spam-bots like 1mPHUNITO were bound to find SubSim.

Stop, this is making everybody look bad. :yep::yep: I know some thing can make us really mad, but remember that we are in the Subsim forums. We are too mature for this, mateys. Lets get back to topic, please..

mr chris & subwolf: Ease up, both of you. This is getting out of hand. Remember: people look into this thread to find help to GWX.

Well i cant believe someone hasnt killed you yet ...... with your views
How did you make it past puberty

I'm gonna have that comment investigated, I take that as a serious threat, and I'm gonna find out who you are. I'm a commercial pilot, and these days I got a certain amount of security around me 24/7. This is totally unacceptable.

Please don't make a comment like that again,

Come on now. I'm sure he didn't said it as you making it appear. It was a bad and unacceptable comment. Let's leave it there please. It's not worthy to get people banned, and ruin the forum. Go on just let it drop and MrChris as well will let it. let's all be civil about it

Tuddley. I didn't see the option of choosing the light mod when loading GWX. But are you referring to the mod "the light Night Mod" to load it into GWX using JSGME. Have you tried that?

I would like to lighten my night vision in GWX. It's not bad, but it could be a little better.

I think the only way so far to have a light night in GWX is to adjust your screen settings. I would suggest you try to change the contrast and the brightness of your screen. It can make a big difference actually. If this doesn't work I would suggest you try to download the latest drivers for your graphics card and play a bit with the settings.

Yes I am talking about the mini mod "Light the night", there is not one included with GWX. No all I have to do is test it out, I have it in JSGME, but haven't enabled it yet. I will do that shortly.

Ooops, the correct name of it is "Marhkimov's LIGHT NIGHT mod". If this thread is closed before I'm done, I'll PM you to let you know the results.

Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year.

Mel, I think that would only be a temporary fix, because you would have to keep adjusting the settings on the monitor everytime you start up SH3, the change them when you exit so evrything else is not Blinding bright.

True. I agree with you on that, but I've suggested this to Rob as a temporary fix. That way he can at least enjoy GWX. If you do manage to make the light mod work though you will make a lot of people happy. In the mean time I'll take it with the Devs and see what they think about it.

Thanks Mel for what you mentioned about my health problems. Not many people look under a person's name. I'm actually glad I reached 71 now but I now have to take additional medication as I now have a heart problem and have to carry Nitro-glycerin with me whereever I go, so it's now a question as to whether I'll be around for SH4.

Didn't mean to break the thread, but thanks very much everyone for wishing me a happy birthday and a joyess Christmas and a Happy New Year.

I wish the same to everyone of you.

Rob you don't need to thank me at all. I just did exactly what you would have done if you were in my place. I really hope your health gets better by the day and I'm sure you will be around for SH6 and beyond:yep: :yep:  . Hang on there mate and try to get well that's the important thing. Everything else follows after that. I really hope you have a fantastic Christmas and I hope the New Year finds you in better health. In the mean time try to enjoy as much as possible GWX (I hope you like it) and I say this because I know that playing for 10 or 15 minutes a day with health problems is not easy.

Obviously for anything else you need just drop me a PM and I'll do all I can to help you.

Take care mate and get well

Guys,

It is completely acceptable to critique and/or criticize mods. Heck, I've pointed out some of my own qualms about GWX.

What is completely unacceptable is 1) Personal attacks, 2) Baiting and trolling, 3) Trying to instigate mod action

This thread is closed. Offenders will be reported to Neal.

Actually, I'm impressed, most of the members here were able to make their points with emphasis but without crossing the line. A few, however, will be hearing from me tonight. This type of baiting and nuking is getting out of hand.
