View Full Version : Comments on GMX!!!
Wow. I actually sank an auxiliary cruiser with two torpedoes, one at stern and one at the bow. The ship sank by the bow first somewhat like a Titanic style sinking. More like the Lusitania. Usually, it took four torpedoes to sank that bad boy either in stock SH3 and in GW 1.1a. I haven't played a campaign as yet but I had played "Happy Times" single mission scenario. Wow. Speaking of intense action. Wow.
I congratulate the GWX team on an effort well done. You really can feel like you're the captain of a german U-Boat now with more realistic sounds and amazing eye candy. I do have one minor complaint which is the mod does not comes with pointer's realistic officer cap shape mod. It gives extra immersion to the game.
GWX is the greatest Christmas present that the submarine simulation community ever gven us. Silent Hunter III is now a great game with the Grey Wolves Expansion mod.

Thanks JayW. These kind words are the ones that keep me going.
Regarding the Aux Cruiser, it is quite normal to go down with two torpedos in the right places. After all, Aux Cruisers were old converted passenger liners with some old guns. No armour. If you add the fact that they had 2-3 ammo bunkers for the guns...well you get the idea.
But keep an eye on the DDs. It´s now always a happy situation, even during Happy Times...

Hi,newbie here, installed SH3 when it first came out, thought the sim was great.Shortly after my computer packed it in.Finally got a new desktop a few months ago & reinstalled SH3,but didnt have time to install any of the new mods, just the the patches. Now that I have taken early retirement, finally have the time to install my favorite sims on my new PC.Read a lot of posts about GWX,took the plunge & installed it.Wow the guys who developed the GWX expansion have my sincere congratulations, probably the best looking sim I have ever seen(believe me I've seem a lot of them going back to 1986).The Operation Cerebrus single mission is outstanding.I will conclude by saying you have to have a good video card & sufficent ram to fully appreciate GWX.FYI-my system spec.s are
AMD ATHLON 64 4300 series
-Geforce 7600 gtx video card 256mb(think I will be upgrading soon)
-2 gig ddr2 ram
-Sony 19" 8ms lcd monitor
-SB platium sound

I love the look of the sea now. Congrats to whoever made the change, excellent work.
BTW, anyone that wants it can use the photo(below) of the loading screen I took, and use it in a sig. Change or add anything to it you want.

Even though I haven't yet installed or played GWX yet (it's torrenting as fast as it can!), I can tell that it will be simply spectacular. Just looking at the manual astounds me because it demonstrates the sheer amount of work that went into the whole project. I mean, there are so many improvements and tweaks and such that SH3 should have its name changed to GWX! (which sounds much more extreme and manly  ) In my opinion, you guys have got to the the best, most dedicated, and most sleep-deprived modders ever.
Anyway, you've heard it all before but I thought I'd just add to the praise that you truly deserve.
But guys, you gotta stop releasing these bigger and better versions! I keep having to start new careers! Come on, just let me finish the war already! ;)
Seriously though, cheers to all of you. If I could legally buy drinks for you, I would. I guess some fresh seawater might work though.....

A fantastic achievement and effort to all who produced this free to the public expansion.
You deserve a reward !
Hi GWX Developers, I´ve been playing around with GWX for a week now, but all I´ve done so far was doing a photo (screenshot)-safari in Kiel, and I real-time travelled through the Kiel Kanal (man, I love these huge bridges!!!) while filling my harddisk with screenshots. I also simulated taking fuel from a supply ship by parking my U-Boat as close as I could next to one of those huge merchants. Another thing I did is following a beautiful sailing boat for a while. Man, this all cost me a week now, gave me so much fun and I havn´t even left port! THANX DEV TEAM, YOU DESERVE THE IRON CROSS! MERRY XMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR! Yours, AS

I think you'll find they have a little rust, but not much. I've read where some people think they should look rustier, but based on real life history, every time they came in for resupply etc.., they would be cleaned up so rust was constantly removed after each patrol.

If you look closesly, the ships are weathered... with an occasional hint of rust.
No self-respecting sailor in any professional navy would allow rust to stand.

I feel for you mate. I remember that part of the military very well... We kept them clean enough to eat off of... and the same went for the floors... and everything else for that matter! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
