View Full Version : GWX - installation problem - please help
I am a bit new to all of this so please be patient with me.
I have installed Silent Hunter III afresh and added the appropriate patch.
I downloaded GWX bins GWX-1,GWX-2,GWX-3,GWX-4 and GWX-5 together with the installer
I placed the bin files in a folder called 'GWX' in programme files. I left the installer in the 'download' folder. When I try to install I get the following message
'Set up needs the next disk. Please insert disk 1'. It does not seem to recognise GWX Bin 1
When I try to browse the GWX folder, I get the message' The file GWX installer bin could not be located in 'C' Program files GWX
What am I doing wrong ? I am dead keen

Just put all files into the same folder and run the exe from there.
EDIT: Hang on, you didn't get the files from here did you... http://hosted.filefront.com/bigboywooly/1891035

Hi!
Put all .bin and .exe to one directory (doesnŽt matter which), and then double click on the exe. If your SHIII installation is clean and patched to 1.4b, youŽll have no problems.:up:

@JSCones
Just curious, but what is wrong with the download link?
Reason I ask, when I was downloading the GWX files I got them from different locations to speed things up.
Was there a problem with any of the .bin files?
Thanks

No, but the OP mentioned this "The file GWX installer bin..." which got my attention. And I recalled that BBW had troubles getting the exe file up to his FF so he renamed it from GWX.exe to GWX_installer.exe. Problem is, if the exe file is called GWX_installer.exe, then the bin files must also be called GWX_installer etc. A simple integrity thing.
I asked BBW to remove the file, or at least rename it back to GWX.exe.
Basically, if the link is at http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/GWX/ it is safe and verified. Anywhere else means it's not verified (or I don't know about it).
In this case, if the OP confirms that the exe file is called GWX_installer.exe or anything else, all he need do is rename it to GWX.exe (assuming his bin files use the correct GWX-x.bin structure).
Again, another good reason to use the MD5Compare and GWX.md5 check as this would be picked up.

@JSCones,
I see. Had me worried there for a sec - thought I may have to download it all again as I had a wrong version or something!!
From what I recall, the naming convention matches all the way through.
Cheers,

No, no, there's only one version of the installer. If you have it, and the MD5 check works out OR you've already installed it successfully, you're set. :up:
Thank you. The install has been successful.

Hi I have loaded GWC into SIlent Hunter III and I find that when I run it, it is too large vertically for my screen. I cannot see the bottom writing under Ubisoft symbal on loading and when it loaded the Command Room, I cannot see the time, it is too low.
Now I have 2 other installs of Silent Hunter III and they fit the 1028 x 768 screen perfectly.
How come GWX is too large???
