View Full Version : My First Experience With GWX

First of all I selected to start in Kiel in 1939. I'm not sure about the choices I made, I'll have to try to find the explanation for each choice. I could go and have lunch while it loaded (because of all the graphics I guess). When I started my Career, it told me I was based at Wilshelmshave, why I chose Kiel.????? When the Command Room appeared on the screen, I had no cursor, I could not see the men on the left hand side, I could not go to TC = zero, I could not get the chance to save anything as the ESC did not bring up the save options. I could not do a darn thing with it, I had to reset my computer.
Rob
Seems like a corrupt install. I started a career from Kiel in ´39 yesterday and had no problems with it.

Same here
I had no problems with it at all. I would suggest you re-download the game Rob and install it again

Make sure to check your files with MD5.

As above and make sure GWX is installed to a clean SH3 install plus the 1.4b patch

Also make sure you delete the SH3 folder in the My Documents before installing SH3

I think I may have a bad install myself, text and certain elements like the deck gun round selector is missing (I only get the HE round present and I cannot select any other).
If I have a corrupt download, then this must mean that others using the same file-front site as me will have the same problem, will it not?
I'm not sure about this MD5 program, I have had a go but I'm not sure if it is working right
Any ideas or tips?

You only have HE rounds rounds in GWX with the deck gun.
Read the manual:rotfl:
All details regarding U-Boats in RL indicate that they ONLY had HE rounds mate, Hence they only have HE in GWX

If you've installed the MD5compare program as well as the md5file that was provided from Jscones (not the corrupted one), then all you need to do is open the program and select the middle option (compare from MD5 file). Select the MD5 file that you downloaded and the program will automatically start checking the 6 GWX files for you.

Took me ages to remove those other useless shells :rotfl:
Will warn you now you will only have the available flak shells too

Thanks for the replies.
The only reason I was asking about the HE issue was that the torpedo/deck armament screen had AP rounds as well as HE. Plus I did have 40 AP to start with and with a click on the shell icon it changed to HE, but I could not change it back.
I have re-tried the MD5 program, I ran it and I got this;

Are my files okay?

Yes the GWX seems to fail in the MD5 with some of the uploaded hash checks
You can check it singulary - the hash is under the exe D\L link on the release page
Seems ok though
Not sure how you have 40 AP rounds though as they were removed from the files

Replace your other MD5 file with this one, just incase it's corrupted, and run again.

Thanks for confirming my files seem okay:up:
I'm sure I had those 40 AP rounds, they even appeared in the "Gunnery" and "Convoy" training missions as well as my career mode.
I wish I had the screenies to prove it though:cry:

He said they were not ok. Red X's mean bad, not good. There needs to be a green check mark besides the exe file.

Hi Fred. I had MD5 check the bins and I got a green check mark for them all.

Anyway, thanks for the link:up:
It appears my MD5 file may have been bad, I ran the MD5 compare program again with the new file and got this result;

Well if you're having previous issues, then it's not GWX's fault.

Yes I recommend commander 2.7
Dont forget the GWX specific files that need to go into SH3commander too
BTW where in Swindon Goose ?

As far as I'm concerned, yes, of course. Once you get it, I'm sure you'll agree.
Now once you've installed game and GWX, make sure to open JSGME which is in your Ubisoft/Silent Hunter III folder and add the options that you'd like which are already provided for you.
Then install Commander and replace the 4 cfg files which are provided from release thread and from then on, always start game with Commander. (review the readme file first)

Ops, that may be the problem, I used the Commander 2.6 and just copied those files into it.

No no Rob this won't work. You have to install SH3Cmd 2.7 and then use these files. Before you uninstall SH3Cmd 2.6 make sure you rollback to save you from having to re-install GWX:up:

Thanks Mel. That's all it was. The game, well at least all the functions work fine. Did not start a patrol yet. I selected 16 I think for atmosphere.
Don't know what my night vision is going to be like though. I had problems with TGW at night, it was too dark.

Yes, this is the outcome if you use the corrupted md5 file (the one most people have listed for d/l). The correct one is at the GWX webpage.
However, if you get the above result using the corrupted one, it's a very safe bet that the files are NOT corrupt, as the bins have ticks. The exe doesn't, because of the corrupted md5 file, but if it runs OK, then it's OK too. Basically, the chances of having a problem with d/l a 768kb file would be very slim, especially if every other piece was OK.

The GWX files for SH3Cmdr are compatible with R2.6, R2.6.1 and R2.7.
Same instructions apply - unzip into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.
