Try switching to 16k atmosphere and see if that helps.

Well something could be done on a next Update about that bro, but depending on the season the ocean , nights can be more or less darken...

Example, if you started the normal date in the campaign career, the
starting month is October mate, so it's close to winter, your patrols will
be in North Atlantic Ocean, and Atlantic in general, nights are pretty dark by that time of the year in Atlantic bro, and depending if some other situations, like Moonlight, weather if it's good or bad, thats was made to get really Ocean enviorment....

But you all ways can use your monitor Gama controls to light it up a bit when you play GWX...

One obvious suggestion:

Turn out your lights when playing. It helps a lot. :know:

remember that if you reinstalled SH3 the brightness setting in options will have reset to default.

I could not find any brightness settings either. However, I beleive that the darkness that I am experiencing at night is much more realistic, so I am going to just leave everything the way it is anyway.

My firest patrol and as I left the Bunker the blackness enveloped me and crew in the cockpit of the watchtower. The ship leading us out was invisible at 800M.

There is definitely a brightness issue here. Perhaps the more experienced Kapitains can give the rest of us a solution?

I was surprized to see a totally dark UZO with only the range markers illuminated but the cross hair reticles dark....

Back on watch deck, the compass binacle has no illumination and is unreadable, the telegraph is also black and unreadable at night.

The number of aircraft is fine if they were limited in munitions. So many repeated passes that they seem to be flying ammo cans for their MG's. I think this sould be attended to. My boat has limited resouces so my attacker enemies should as well.

Can someone list a few mods that would enhance GWX or as they say is it "in there..."

I have done one patrol and a mission with GWX and I have never had it THAT dark. Actually, during the full moon on clear nights, I can see pretty far. During cloudy nights that are foggy on the other hand.... Maybe your moniter could use some tweaking? I know with mine I have a text mode and a "ultrabrite" mode. Ultrabrite makes things come out a lot more in games. (But does not wash the picture out.)

I have found that with my Nvidia card.... if I go into the Controls, color correction...I have a setting for "Digital Vibrance" ... default was OFF.

So I set it to LOW (the lowest I could and get LOW to come on) and that improved night vision in GWX GREATLY.

Gotta love all the crap they throw in graphics card drivers with NO explaination of what it does.....

I can tell you guys one thing when you're unsure of if there are someone closing or you just whant to check for sound contacts, dive to periscope deph and ask you sonar man, for contacts,

If he tells you yes you have a hunt, if no, go surface again and ride the waves for a wile...

Do that from time to time, cause it's the real thing on those days...

This Mod is to get you guys close to reality as possible,
and i can asure you that is very Refined in reallity and
Sub player inmersion...

you guys just have to think :

What should a U-Boat Captain do Now?

Have fun guys...:arrgh!:

The GWX 16k Atmosphere is considerably darker than the default 8k. See this post (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showpost.php?p=766165&postcount=3167).

onelife.. thats the ticket!!! the bottom right of your screenie is what my game looks like with 16k mod..cant see ANYTHING.

I will try the 8k and if its as light as yours, problem fixed. I jsut like the 16k mod because it seems more realistic as far as sighting difference.

If anything i think GWX2 actually lightens the nights compared to other supermods.

But if its too dark for your taste...

Easiest solution is just to turn up your monitor brightness when you need to see whats going on + play in a darkened room:up:

(as far as i know sh3 has no brightness setting)

You are sure "digital vibrance" has something to do with brighteness ? :hmm:

If i remember correctly, it makes the colors appear more flashy or something like that. Anyway, giving it a try won't hurt :yep:

For the dark nights, it was a problem for me too. But in another post, someone point me for a mod called : "SH3_Mod_MarhkimovsOceanMadness_V2".

In that mod, there are severall folders ; the one to use (for 16K) is : " Marhks' Ocean Madness V2 (Only for Rub or 16k) "

Nothing is broken in GWX, only the env. files are used, and the good news is :

It works good

It's less dark than stock GWX 2.0. On my rig, it seems it is like OneLifeCrisis screen 8k more than anything else, so i kept it.

It must be activated in JSGME on top of GWX 16K mod.

Maybe you should give it a try.

@ Wildchild, you should ask for permission to use/alter other peoples mods though, or atleast add a list of credits.:stare:

You hit the nail on the head JC. This is not an ARCADE mod. :yep:

edit: While I sympathize with all includeing myself who have visual probs. I use tools like Hydrophone to work around dark nites. And as far as leaveing the sub pen just be careful you don't hit anything and have Liabilty Insurance policy in glove box.

I have ATI... nVidia is so much better. ATI settings are so few and don't do things as well as nVidia.

For a start a tweaked version of my SH4 Scene.dat, it is exactly the same file size as mine & I had 2 major fixes done, the sky vortex & moon reflection, these do not work with the standard SH4 version, I had permission & assistance to fix these issues as well as tweaks, please tell me how you achieved this?:-?
Also noticed Markimovs EnvSkycolor, if you got permission you should have a readme with credits to them, the mod comes with no readme.
These were the only ones I checked as this is the area I've been working on of late.:-?

Did not know that Markhimov's Ocean Madness V2 could work fine with GWX 2.0 :hmm:
Recently I have disabled the GWX 16km atmosphere so that i can use Reece's
SH3 Scene Atmosphere (comp GWX2.0) but I guess you cannot either run it with Markimov's mod at the same time ?

Hi Steve,

I have an ATI card. I'm fiddling with the Brightness, Contrast and Gamma sliders on the ATI control panel. Unfortunately they all also influence the look of all the regular screens, which I like just the way they are. The Gamma and Brightness both had a major effect of darkening my view of the forum here. Right now I have contrast turned down 50%, and it's not too bad; but I haven't looked at the game that way yet. If I don't like that I plan to fiddle with combinations of the three at lesser levels.
