I installed GWX on a fresh install of SHIII patched to 1.4b, on a newly formatted HDD. I installed the latest version of SHIII Commander after I had installed GWX.
I am running it through an ATI 9800 pro on an Asrock K7VT4A pro Mb, Sempron 3000+ CPU, with 1.5 Gb memory on a SATA 1.5 HDD.
Everything else, apart from the sky looks great and runs much more smoothly than it did with SHIII+GW. Unfortunately the sky, despite it being mid afternoon is completely black. Have I somehow botched the installation or is there something I need to alter or install to make the sky render as it should.

I had this happen with the "old" GW 1.1a. I changed from 8km to 16km (or vice versa) and it fixed it.

I use an X850XT and remember now that I was running the Omega's when I had the problem as well.

May want to try the stock drivers again and/or change the atmosphere.

What do you mean loaded the 16km incorrectly .

Thanks

GWX comes with both the JGSME Mod Enabler by JScones and an optional 16 km atmosphere mod.

Use JGSME to enable the included 16km mod. Easy as pie.

I do not have it installed and night time is just fine on my machine. what exactly does the 16km mod do anyway?

I did and do have the 16k mod enabled through JSGME and still get the black sky .

Thanks for your reply .

It DOUBLES the visible distance of objects in-game... and pretty much doubles the load on your CPU as well. Not recommended for low to middle-end PC's.

That is how I understand it from the manual. All is good with the original install so I do not need this!

True... which is why we've made it an optional mod for GWX. :D

Try disabling it and then re-enabling it. If that doesn't work... re-run the GWX .exe to restore it to default 8km.

Did you install any other mods?

Did you rollback SH3coomander before applying those mods ?
Or install them straight away

I tried the GWX .exe file and received a message "verificationof E Silent Hunter III by the Grey Wolves expansion failed :

Test 1 Passed
Test 2 Passed
Test 3 Passed
Test 4 Passed
Test 5 Failed

Is 5 corrupted?

I would say yes if it failed
Delete that one and D\L again
Corruption can and does occur through downloading which is why this handy tool was included

The verification error message is due to the SilentHunterIII folder NOT being a clean install patched to 1.4b

Ok guy's try this.....

A couple of testers had the same problem and we fixed it with my copy of GWX's 16km ATM.

Usual story, rollback SH3Cmdr, disable the original 16km ATM, extract and copy this one into JSGME's mod folder & enable.

Be sure to hit the "Roll-Back" button if you are using SHCommander, even if you haven't even made any option selections in SHCommander. Just hit the button, and then try your install if this is the case.

I used the file the tester suggested and it cured my problem with black skies .

Thank you sir .

No corrupt files when I tested it with MD5 .

:damn: hadn't seen this! :rotfl: but just found out that the original 16km atmosphere mod is the reason for my black nights! Without it installed, it's now perfect! Glad to see it confirmed!

Not sure anymore, why I would want a 16km atmosphere? :hmm:

The above log is not from the MD5Compare - it's from the installer. It is saying that the selected installation of SH3 is already modded, hence is invalid.

The above log does NOT imply corruption of any d/l file. To determine that one needs to run MD5Compare and load the GWX.md5 file.

The installer does five tests whenever a path is selected. The fact that there are five tests should not be confused with the fact that there are also five bin files. Mere coincidence.

Yeah, Filefront is 'down' at the moment. I guess GWX cooked it.:rotfl:

Give me a minute and I'll get a mirror up.

Well... I've tried the new 16km, still pitch black here. And it's not a matter of monitor adjustment btw. Tried to make a splitscreen shot, but even then it's hard to tell the difference, but if you have both screenshots in Windows Picture Viewer and swap between them, it's very easy to see the difference! Here's a zipped folder containing two shots http://www.sfgpl.dk/pics/sh3/div/swap.zip

Just a footnote, but GWX 8km and TGW 16km ligth appears on my monitor exactly the same, ligthwise.

@ Jan Kyster

I think we've got a missunderstanding. I assumed you were having night during the day:oops:. If this is not the case then I'm affraid that the files that you currently have for the 8 & 16km ATM are the light versions. It was decided to only release with these versions as no-one ever used the dark ones.

The only solution to your really dark nights, at the moment, is to adjust either your GFX card settings or your monitors. I'm sure before too long that someone will come up with a lighter version.

:damn: after seing Tuddley's post, I realised I posted in the wrong thread! Misread the Title - the're sooo many GWX-threads... Sorry, but my fault.

Anyway, the 8km standard GWX-night is still just perfect and saved my, erhm, night
