what about the behaviour of ai-uboats in this mod?

is it right that we have just two types, one is dived at periscope depth and the other one is surfaced. and none of them attacks ships with torps (or the faked torps by sergbuto)?

what about transmitting of the position? do german boats also send the position of sighted enemies?

thx

Yes the AI subs should and will relay your position to all that are close by, So you should get attack by AC and surface vessels that in the area.
Regarding the subs firing on you..i'll let someone else answer this as i'm not sure..i would not like to give you the wrong answer

According to the GWX manual (enemy submarines):

The S-class submarine in GWX

The Silent Hunter III game engine does not allow AI-controlled submarines to surface or dive so GWX
models two types of S-class submarine. The first type is always at periscope depth and the second is
always on the surface since Neither can shoot torpedoes, but both will report your position should they
detect you and the surfaced version will shoot at you if you are on the surface.

The Gato-class submarine in GWX

GWX models the Gato-class submarine to be on the surface at all times, since the Silent Hunter III game
engine does not allow AI-controlled submarines to surface or dive. It cannot fire torpedoes but will
report your position if it detects you, and use its deck and anti-aircraft guns against you if it detects your
U-boat on the surface.

The Balao-class submarine in GWX

GWX models the Balao-class submarine to be on the surface at all times, since the Silent Hunter III
game engine does not allow AI-controlled submarines to surface or dive. It cannot fire torpedoes but
will report your position if it detects you, and use its deck and anti-aircraft guns against you if it detects
you on the surface.

the audio/visual effects did not replicate a torpeedo strike in a very convincing way as you can imagine.
The effects replicate quite well a strike by electric torpedos, especially when the external view on torpedo boats is not used to monitor the torpedo launch. I utilized exactly the same effects used by the game for a torpedo attack by the player. Nobody needs to imagine anything but to simply take a look. Naturally, it is up to you whether to use the mod or not but do not mis-inform people.

Couple that with the fact that when these virtual torps are used by AI against the player, i guess they would be a little unfair - as you would not be able to see the wakes approaching, thus have no chance to manouver out of harms way. :yep:
Neither electric nor acoustic torpedos had wakes. Hydrophones were also ineffective on the surface to hear torpedo screws because only the surfaced player sub have a chance to be attacked with torpedo in my mod. Therefore, it RL it would largely be a surprise for the sub crew. Such attacks did not happen often in RL, they do not happen often in the mod either.

I can find quite a few things intentionally put in big mod-compilations which are unfair to the player or even unrealistic therefore this kind of argument is not to be taken seriously, at least by me. Nor would I care much about inclusion or usage of my mod. I am quite happy with it being in my SH3 installation.

Serg, dont get me wrong -I wasnt setting out to critisize your work  , you did a really great job considering what was availible to you, i was just having a stab at geussing the reasons why they might have left it out of GWX.
If im wrong then Im wrong, My appologies, i was just going on what ive been told I didnt mean to misinform anyone or make you look bad -Ive deleted the post mate..
You do outstanding work for this community- especially what you did with aircraft rockets was truley amazing

What happens if i fire a torpedo at an enemy sub? Will i destroy it? Tis counts for both surfaced and submerged. Can i kill them :smug: , that's all i need to know.

that doesnt really answers my question  i wonder if the german ai subs will be able to transmit enemy positions or if they will attack enemy ships. after the wonderful mod by sergbuto they are definitely able to attack ships with "faked" (i guess) torpedos!

so question is: ai-subs able to attack with torps?

not: allied -> german
i mean: german -> allied

thx

No sub launched torpedos at the moment, read the GWX manual, it says that all German AI subs will travel surfaced and engage with the deck / flak guns, but the virtual torpedos for one reason or another did not make it in to GWX.

As for reporting enemy postions, I cant answer you that, as Im not sure how the AI in the game actually handels this. Im just a cleaner not a mechanic Im afraid.

URFISH... There is a CHANCE that they will report the position of the enemy. The chance is low and depends on a series of factors that I am not going to go into here now.

Yes... they can report enemy positions. However, this should be a rare event.

Can anyone tell me why Serge's virtual torpedos weren't included in GWX ? As it sounds like a very good mod concept.

Cheers, Hans

Because we have our own plans for AI torpedos to be included in an update down the road.

No offense meant, but I am not going to comment on these plans further.
