View Full Version : gramophone question
this may sound silly but ... will the use of the gramophone really give away our location in game ? if i turn it on while escaping some destroyers will they listen to it ?
just because i recently got my original Das Boot sountrack and i realy would lilke to listen to some of those musics while playing ... Klaus Doldinger really did an excelent job on making music for a number of situations on the U-boat
the one where the boat goes to the bottom really gets you there ... hehe

Everything I've heard about the gramaphone is that it is strictly "Ear Candy" it has no affect in the game.

I heard the same. You can crank MegaDeath or Motorhead all you want and they will not hear you.

I'm also certain that it has no effect. I turn it off whenever I sight anything anyway, not "to be on the safe side" but because it's what I would do if I were really the captain.

I attack a Convoy with the Gramaphone full blast, a bit like 'Acopalypse Now' with all those Choppers [da daa da daa da da daa da daa]
Wot was that music again :hmm: ?

good Work Pants, they should be able to hear you.
It seems sortof counterintuitive to blast ride of the Valkyre by Wagner when you have your crew on silent running.
That's my thoughts anyway.

Kind of reminds me of the scene in The Enemy Below where Curt Jurgens blasts the gramophone and has his crew sing along while Robert Mitchum depth charges the hell of out them.

I created a Das Boot theme music mod a while ago for SH3, converting DB's soundtrack to .ogg files then integrating them into the music.cfg. I remember there being more situations than I had music to match to, so I had some pieces of music playing more than once, and on reflection should probably have included some blank sound files...but muggins here didn't think of that at the time (brilliant concept, thanks GW team)
I just had a look and my 'Das Boot Theme Music pack.rar' is still available at UBRS downloads Audio section, but you may want to edit the music.cfg yourself and include some blank sounds....or Metallica, whichever is your preference.

Ride of the Valkyre
Thats the exact track I play when attacking a convoy on the surface (when in ideal conditions)
