View Full Version : Submerged In Dover as I type this (GW1.1)

I've only been playing this game for a week or so, with the GW1.1 mod, and just had my best patrol so far. I've downed a couple of small warships, two large merchants and two large C3s. I was on my way back to Wilhemshafen and as I passed Dover I thought I might as well use the 4 torpedos I still have sinking whatever I might find in the local harbor.

Sneeking inside was a bit tricky as there are countless armed trawlers and V&W destroyers roaming around. I got inside and spotted my very first Fiji, then my first Dido and then, I couldn't believe my eyes, my very first passanger liner.

A quick glance at the renown scores that I can get for each ship settled it for me. I want to down the passanger ship, and get out of there ASAP as I've been spotted and am being pinged at this very moment. I should have enough time to let lose my two last front torps and at least one from aft before reinforcements can arrive.

My question now is, just where do I aim at this behemoth? The communitymanuals link that shows weak spots doesn't have the passanger liner on its list. It's the early 40s and from what I've read here so far the magnetic trigger aren't to be trusted, at least not just yet.

I'm afraid you're right. I saved and tried a couple of things. I never survived longer then five minutes and I'm in a very bad position to fire at the liner. To hell with the passanger ship, I got the Dido lined up perfectly in my (only :nope:) Savespot. I'll torp her and then I must find a way out again.

I cannot lose this tonnage!

If you are playing for any amount of realism at all you will creep out of there without shooting at all. There is a reason subs didnt do what you are doing. Unless you are playing a Japanese sub.:88)

Mate, ive found on the Liner the easiest spot to aim is 1 fish under the funnel and one into the stern. sure it may take a while to sink, but you'll get your renown. As for the dido, again under the funnel or under any of the turrets ought to work well for you.:hmm:

I had to flee earlier. I tried my best to take something down while getting out of Dover, but not one ship sank and I lost my watchman petty officer to depth charges. I did make it back to Wilhemshafen ... more or less ... but at that point there was only one thing on my mind.
In one word: Revenge :arrgh!:

There is a good reason why for going in the Atlantic it is far safer to go around the north of Scotland as BdU advises you.. Just don't go back there, you were lucky to get out (this is allowing you to retry from saves);)

Sir, you should never play around with the lives of your crewmen for a handful of renown. Those who learn to run away can always fight another day. Now just what are you going to tell this petty officers mother?
