Thanks for the help JMack, & will chase up the websites provided, will email them for some good snapshots, I can't read german so makes things a little harder but can use Googles language converter if I need to. Probably more essential for a shot of one of the pages.:yep: I think you will agree!

Unfortunately the email address for www.u47.org (http://www.u47.org) is a dud, I just get an error, I couldn't find any downloads there except for some wallpapers & a map.:cry:
Will keep trying though!:up:

I suppose you're looking for the so-called KTB or Kriegstagebuch, which is in essence a logbook in which the position of the U-boot at certain intervals and other events (like torpedo-runs, sightings, under attack, communications etc.) are noted.

Sadly this is (still) not available in SH3 :nope:, so (as the idiot that I am :doh:- or so my girlfriend thinks), I write all these events down on a piece of paper. Just for my own fun, because I don't really use it for anything else. It's just an immersion factor for me.

The template for my KTB I've taken from several (copies) of KTB's I have in possesion. I purchased them from someone on eBay. I could scan a few pages but I don't want to kill his bussines though, so I'll give you his eBay name; He is called "wemsen".

By the way, I am not connected to this person in any way. I just purchased several KTB's and copies of original photo's from him. He is a good seller with reasonable prices, and at the moment he has several KTB's for sale http://cgi.ebay.com/U-Boot-Kriegstagebuch-U-460-vom-24-12-41-bis-16-10-43_W0QQitemZ120061686199QQihZ002QQcategoryZ15509QQ rdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.

Hope this helped a bit.
If you don't want to buy from him, but would like some scans from me just send me a pm...;)

Regards,
DerXL

Hi, the download is only for the map, & it's the email (contact us) link that is dead!
Thanks DerXL but I am not going to pay for a picture of a Kriegstagebuch cover and blank page, I'm not interested in the contents just the layout to do basically what you have done creating a KTB (if this is the U-Boats Commanders log book).

no one is telling you to pay ... just use the photo as reference

Hi Jmack, if I missunderstood, I'm sorry, but it doesn't read that way:

I could scan a few pages but I don't want to kill his bussines though, so I'll give you his eBay name; He is called "wemsen".

By the way, I am not connected to this person in any way. I just purchased several KTB's and copies of original photo's from him. You would think it easy to find, I went to the link but the pictire quality is too poor to read the titles (headings), and if I was to place a bid I assume that he is expecting, including post around $20 for a photocopy of 1 page!! (Note I can't read German). Seems like a rip off to me!
I think I might give up on this!:down:

Thanks, this is good!:D Now could someone reprint the following headings in German for setting up the heading/format for a new blank page please?:)
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/Headings.jpg
The site given by Bigboywooly has the Headings translated already, so that saves a job!:up:
They also had a copy of the front cover on the main page, should be able to do something with this, assume this says the date.

Just got to figure out what to do with it now!:lol:

Two things perhaps to consider:

1. The use of Fraktur fonts in *new* KTBs seems to have ceased around mid/end 1941 (after Bormann's January edict). It was replaced with Antiqua fonts.

2. From early 1942 the format apparently became more of a standard essay. The bottom example in the link that BBW posted - http://www.uboatarchive.net/BDUKTBFormat.htm - shows the new style.

One KTB I have dating from 1943 (perhaps the essay style wasn't overly popular with anyone other than Doenitz, LOL!) shows the headings as:

* Datum und Uhrzeit
* Angabe des Ortes, Wind, Wetter, Seegang, Beleuchtung, Sichtigheit [sp?] der Luft, Mondschein USW
* Vorkommnisse

Essentially the same as the image above.

Another, which I think is newer, simply shows the headings as:

* Tag Uhrzeit
* Ort Wetter
* Vorkommnisse

With a vertical running "Heftrand" written in the, surprise surprise, margin. ;)

Both use an Antiqua family font.

I remember researching all this when I first built the KTB feature into SH3Cmdr - it uses a compromise between history and SH3.

Hi Jaesen, thanks for the translation, I will see if I have, or can get the fonts.
Altimately once the artwork is done I could just post for people to printout to make up a book, but what would be better is finding a log program that has a hot key to bring it up, but I don't know if the hot key will work in the game, may cause too many problems, getting the game to accept keyboard characters to a notepad is out I think. We really need a programmer with plenty of spare time to waste!!:rotfl::rotfl:Sorry about that!
Cripes this weather sucks, haven't heard about the Vic fires today, hope they have it under control!:cry: Anyway any advise you may give I'd appreciate it.
Cheers.

actually ... its not a bad idea ... a logbook where you can write your own notes , maybe Sh3 comander can add this feature in future versions

Jmack, do you have a hires view of the Flugbuc (ch) cover or the "torpedo boat" cover, not for the cover printing but the colour/texture of the cover (including smudges)?
If you do let me know & I will PM you with my email address, Thanks.:D

Best I could come up with, Reece, is this site:

http://www.uboatarchive.net/BDUKTB.htm

its an English copy of Dönitz's KTB. Open up any of the dates and you'll see how the pages of the KTB were arranged. I made a blank duplicate in MS Word that I use for my KTB.

Cheers,

Hi Don, thanks but Bigboywooly beat you to it!:D have almost everything I need except for the cover background color, want to get a hires picture so that I can copy a clear area (without print) & then enlarge it!:) I don't want the book to look brand new!!;) I may have to PM Jmack if he doesn't check in on this thread!:yep:
Cheers.

I will try using that then or find an old book here with a blank page! maybe if I drop it in mud, wash it off, then let sit in sun to dry!:up:
Now to do something about it!:D
Thanks all.

If you missed my last post, I have a continuous KTB Word template. You just keep typing and the next page appears when you run off the bottom of the page you're on. The headings are the old style using Kleist Fraktur with the content being in Crappy Wehrmacht Typewriter font.

It also includes a title page with a red "Geheimekommandosache" and the title format generally used, including a distribution list.

As is is a continuous template, I have not been able to have the "Heftrand" appearing on alternate sides of the page, and the printer's details are on every page instead of only on what would be the front page of a double sided sheet.

I also have an A4 template with the front and back pages of a sheet correctly laid out so that if they were printed off on A4, double sided, then they could be bound as a book with as many pages as you wanted.

In both templates, the second column is titled "Ort Wetter."

I also have a continuous FTB template, and Torpedo Schlußunterlagen forms in English and German.

If you would like any of them, email Brad at hmsironduke@ozemail.com.au (hmsironduke@ozemail.com.au)
