View Full Version : Question about TGW 1.1a and other mods

I have a question about the installation/uninstallation of some mods, etc.

I currently have installed: (in this order)

SH3 1.4b
TGW 1.1a
Mod Enabler
SH3 Commander 2.6.1
SH3Gen v0.7.1dotNET 2.0

I didn't use the Mod Enabler to install TGW 1.1a, and I'm curious about a few things.

1. Before GWX releases I wanted to try the latest NYGM mod, but was curious as to what this mod offers that TGW 1.1a doesn't?

2. If I didn't use the Mod Enabler to install TGW 1.1a (because of the extra 4gb is uses), what do I have to do to uninstall TGW 1.1a and then use the mod enabler to install the NYGM mod?

3. What is the latest version of NYGM and where can it be found?

Now some questions about SH3Gen:

4. Case scenario: I leave port, sail all the way out of port traffic, save my game, then Alt Tab out of SH3, load up SH3Gen, browse to saved game, then click Generate, then reload my saved game which works fine and I see all the new stuff on the map and the intellgence reports....but how do I know if I've completed the mission requirements SH3Gen asks me to do? I went to Londonderry and didn't find any ships there but sank alot of warships and merchants north of Ireland.

5. After I return home and dock, get a new mission and then leave port again..do I have to reload SH3Gen and "Generate" for a new mission? I'm confused about this part.

If any of you fine people could answer my questions 1-5, it would be MOST appreciated.

Thanks guys.
Joe

GW as NYGM are supermods that offer a totally new experience in the stock SH3. Both GW and NYGM use the same damage model but NYGM aims on more 'realistic' game play. Personally I like GW more but try both and make up your mind.

2. If I didn't use the Mod Enabler to install TGW 1.1a (because of the extra 4gb is uses), what do I have to do to uninstall TGW 1.1a and then use the mod enabler to install the NYGM mod?
Since you haven't used the mod enabler you have to uninstall GW and SH3 to add NYGM. That means you take everything off, you reinstall SH3 you patch it up to 1.4 and then you install NYGM. Make sure you take off the SH3 folder that is in My Documents as well

3. What is the latest version of NYGM and where can it be found?
I think is 2.2 but I am not sure. Go to their thread in SubSim and have a look

There are no missions requirements for SH3Gen. This add-on is there to provide intelligence reports and give you indications where to look for enemy targets. It does not give you renown and has nothing to do with the way you get tonnage, renown and promotions in SH3.

5. After I return home and dock, get a new mission and then leave port again..do I have to reload SH3Gen and "Generate" for a new mission? I'm confused about this part.
Yes you do. Every time you start a new mission and you're about 50-100Km away from your home base you can check the intelligence reports through SH3Gen

Thanks guys.
You're Welcome :D

Ouch I was afraid of that. hehe. I knew I should have used the mod enabler with TGW. I just figured since it had it's own install package that I'd use that instead. Don't get me wrong, I love TGW 1.1a and can't wait for GWX but I wanted to try the NYGM mod too. The problem is that I paid the $29.99 for the download version of SH3 and they only let me use so many activations before I have to email support at direct2drive.com and have them give me a new key for more activations. I think I'll just keep TGW 1.1a for now.

Oh btw to the masters of GWX. When you guys officially release GWX...will we be able to "upgrade" from TGW 1.1a or are you guys going to require a complete uninstallation of everything?

Thanks again for the help!

Since you're using the downloaded version of SH3 I would suggest you try activating mods using the mod enabler. That way if you don't like something you can always deactivate it without having to uninstall the game. NYGM is a very good mod and loads of people use it. The fact that I like GW more doesn't really mean anything. It's a personal opinion nothing more. My suggestion is to try it and make up your mind for yourself.

No GWX is totally different from all other mods. You need to put it on top of a CLEAN patched to 1.4 version of SH3 to play it. You cannot use the mod enabler for that. The mod enabler can be used after you install GWX to add skins and other mods you like.

Thanks again for the help!
Once again you're welcome. That's why we're here for, so don't be affraid to ask:D

I would suggest - as you have the D\L version that the next time you reinstall make a complete copy of the SilentHunterIII folder
That way you can always have a good copy with no need to reinstall
Just use your copy to make as many new copies as you like
Multiple installs

I have purchased a few of these "online" game installs, and I've found that it's a good practice to do the initial install, activate, apply any available patches, and immediately burn the game folder and any other user files, registry entries, activation info, etc. to disk for subsequent re-installs.
Using this method, I've re-installed both rFactor and netKar Pro with no re-activation needed.
I hope this helps!
