Partly OT: Stupid question

When Norway was occupied by the Germans in 1940, were Norwegian ships allowed to continue flying their own flags, or were they forced to fly German flags?

In other words, should I have all Norwegian merchant traffic post-Weserubuing consist of Norwegian or German vessels:-??

As a side note, I'm editing DefSide so that Norway is neutral after June 10th (leaving the fighting to a new Norwegian_Resistance "nation"), so don't take "glitches" such as frequent German air-raids on Norwegian shipping into consideration here.

Well I think the merc navy would have to fly under your new resistance flag in allied convoys - as thats where the bulk of the Norwegian ships sailed with
Norway itself you can treat as France is - neutral after occupation
A protectorate

Nuetral Norwegian shipping can then continue under its own flag with no air attacks

If you give them lnd bases too you can have Norway show on the map as nuetral as France does

This is not a stupid question...

The home fleet used the normal Norwegian flag, and the same registration. Most freighters had one or two German soldiers on board.
