How many of you have good Dangerous Waters tales that you remember?

I will start:

"AI's Aren't Always Dumb"

This is a short tale. I was doing an ASW area search in a Seawolf around GUIK. All a sudden I caught a contact. Fat dumb and happy, about 10,000 yards from me. I made my way toward it gloating with satisfaction. Just as I fired it disappeared leaving a ghost. I kept firing at the ghost until out of nowhere a torpedo came and pow!
What had happened is the target had turned toward me and done an end around, coming up on my stern. While I was firing at the ghost contact he must have used the sound of the launch to isolate my position and fire on it. Clever. That AI did a great service to Mother Russia.

Currently on LWAMI 3.02:

In a play test of my multiplay map, I was driving the akula and was tasked to intercept a 688 with FFG escort departing from a sub pen or shipyard located within 30nm between long / lat points. Current state of ROE is weapons free for RU and weapons hold for US forces.

EMCON was secure and wasn't picking up anything except for the helo flying CAP for escort on esm and dipping sonar. Dipping sonar was farther from me than my kilo counterpart, so I made use of that. Coming from the west I set a search pattern of 10 x 30nm and figured I’d gun it east for a bit then slow down on the 1st leg due east, make the turn and patrol due north along the coastline.

I preset 2 fish for HF, 1 to enable at 1000 the other 2500 in a 10 degree spread since I'm blind so to speak and warm up the asw torpedo tubes for strike. Witnesseda couple of 60 hz contacts come and go passing stern side, even some bios. Also had a fishing boat starboard side I could have used for camo, but I maintained the tactical advantage at a lower level sea floor than where the fisherman was.

At that very moment I confirmed true bearings on everything I was picking up and most of the traffic was either westerly, or from the east due west, so any additional 60 hz contact from the east will definitely deserve my immediate attention.:D

While on 2nd leg patrol I toggle back and forth between HF, Sphere and TA - nothing. Then all of a sudden guess who is doing 8 kts, and getting good pick up on the TA - he is close.

I tried for TMA plot and master but the sphere wouldn't lock - im running out of time, and with his signal strength he was close. I then call a hard right rudder for a brief moment to prevent overshooting, aiming directly at him, cut speed to 2kts, reel in the TA - and wait. :arrgh!:

As soon as HF contact was made confirmed by sphere I launch CMs 1st, fire spread and flank to his port side as his torp takes the CMs just in the nick of time - lucky break . I then call a depth and course change order to prevent running around and head east behind the wake of his torpedo and listen. The 1st torp he evaded early, the 2nd torp he managed to buy himself some time and evade as well, but he is going loud enough to plot a master at this range.

Plotted master and fired a bracket shot of asw torps that eventually caught up with him. I fired a nice sortie as an insurance policy to give the FFG something to chew on. 3/4 of them made it passed the FFG. Next thing ya know, acoustics report explosion on bearing of master.

Moments later I was tasked to disengage and reach safe distance as the helo caught wind and the dipping sonar growing louder.:ping:

I also have another story as the 688 if you wish to hear that one as well ;)

I was replaying Barents Sea Loiter. I had damaged all of them and sunk the Kirov. The last one was running like a rabbit back to port. I thought, "Aha, I'll get you". I chased it, got closer and closer until I simply ran aground and sank. Presumably the Captain of that vessel explained to his superiors that that was his intention and it was a cunning ruse.

I remember one time, I was training a friend of mine for 688i opperations. I set up a really simple training map with some land targets, and a few non armed surface ships so I could train him how to recieve radio messages, launch missiles at land targets and how to track sea contacts. I set our subs relatively near each other so we would both be recieving the same or similar contact information from the targets we were to track together. He knew nothing of Dangerous Waters at the time so I was pretty much teaching him from scratch.
The missile launches against the "enemy bunkers" went off perfectly. So we then began our tracking of the Cathy Lee Gifford ocean liner (That we planned on sinking to the bottom in no short order). Things went perfect. We tracked it durring several turns. I taught him how to zig zag to get a decent bearing and he was doing GREAT ! I then said "Now we get to shoot !"
I showed him how to designate a target for his torpedo, how to set it up for the attack, and how to fire.
Both of us together fired a single torpedo at the ship.
Suddenly, my sonarman yells at me "TORPEDO IN THE WATER" and I hear ping..ping..pingpingpingpingPINGPINGPING !!!! and before I can even switch the screen to drop a countermeasure and run like hell.... BOOM !!! There's suddenly a LOT of water inside my sub and I fall to the bottom of the ocean like a lead sinker with my ship bent into the shape of kielbasa.
Apparently, the contact that he was following was ME and not the ship and I thought he was doing so well cuz he was turning right with me and getting pretty much the same bearings I was. hehehe.
The next time we did a training mission, the radio message I set up said "RULES OF ENGAGEMENT: DO NOT TORPEDO THE INSTRUCTOR !"

Were you dating his girlfriend without telling him at the time?

Were you dating his girlfriend without telling him at the time?

No.. but I think he had someone nammed Bernard doing TMA for him.

I have another story that's too funny and must be told regardless of the fact that it was in Silent Hunter III and not Dangerous Waters..
It was my first career mission ever...
The sub is parked at the dock... there is a marching band playing, people are waving.... ladies are tossing flowers.... I decide to give the order "Ahead 1/3"... unfortunately.. there was a tiny bit of lag and what I clicked on was "Reverse 1/3" SInce I had immediately switched to the navigation station, I didn't notice the direction I was going because I was trying to plot off a quick course, planning to switch back to steer out of port. Then I hear "BAM !!" The sub had reversed right into the dock. Imagineing the shocked faces of the crowd assembled to see me off, I set the propper "Ahead 1/3".. but the collision had knocked the sub slightly sideways and as we drove forward... we hit the side of the wall and went scraping dowin it making a loud "BAM !!! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !!!" fingernails/metal accross a chalkboard sound.
By this time.. the band probably had stopped playing and the rest of the crowd were probably cringing and covering their eyes or ears.
We finally pulled free of the dock after a good minute of scraping down the side. Then I "expertly" guided the sub out of the shipyard and set a course north at standard speed... 5 minutes later.. the sub slammed into a shallow area (Quite a way off shore I might add.. probably a sand bar), got torn open and sunk with all hands aboard.
WHOOPS !!!
