View Full Version : Killing a Nimitz
What is your preferred Western weapon to kill a Nimitz CVN?I put five MK48s into one to get it to sink!Tasm's are like snowballs,so what do you use?

Use a special forces team. If they can get on the ship, they will blow it up!

Two to four MK48's will do the trick normaly unless your in a 688i then fire a whole batch the 12 VLS tubes and the four torp tubes of TASM and be close. the nimitz cant combat them all.
Chances are with that though you will find it will swat 2/3 or them but one lucky one or two will get in damaging it sufficently that it cant use its weapons.

Get close, within 10 NM, and fire 5 TASM one after the other. Dead Nimitz. Now, fire some 48s at it's escourts to cover your escape and maybe score a few more hits.

TASMs at max range. If you throw enough snowballs, one of 'em is bound to poke their eyes out. :D

Or not. As I said, many times I launched BIG TAMS salvos, 2 missiles shot down, other 10 going all to the cloud of chaff. Chaff is very effective, especially if target launches many of them. If you want to be sure, use torpedo. TASMs are good for last blow, or for merchants. Otherwise it's just wasting amo.

As stated earlier by me, disable with the ADCAP's, then launch the TASM for show purposes. I remember playing the SC version of 'Screen Penetration'. What I did was duck underneath the layer and then pop up right behind or the side of the Kuz. After the escorts and Kuz are disabled from spread of ADCAP's, make depth for PD, raise the scope and launch the TASM's watching them hit.:rock::up::up:

I don't understand why you guys have so much trouble with TASMs and I don't. I've never had a whole salvo of missiles go after one cloud of chaff. They don't always go after the target of my choice, but a single cloud of chaff? Come on! It strikes me as unlikely. Something must be going on.
I'm not saying torpedoes are a bad thing. Personally, I like to use them in combination, making a strike with TASMs (16 missiles), a strike with Harpoons (4 missiles), then finally closing and attacking with torpedoes. Between them all, I can usuallly widdle down a whole battle group (provided ASW helos don't figure me out :) ). All targets are more vulnerable to torpedoes, provided you can get close enough, because you can't shoot them down. You'll never hear anyone saying they need to shoot 12 or 16 of them just to score a kill. I can't help but wonder if you're employing them in the most effective way possible.
It happens sometimes, not always. Torpedo is just sure hit (if you set it properly).
I use LWAMI, the stable release, BTW.

That must be the problem because every time I've used the stock DB, TASMs work just fine.
Two wakehomers launched at 5nm does the trick every time. From the play I've seen, ASM are hardly ever worth storing, unless the target is unarmed or already damaged with AAW defenses damaged.
