View Full Version : Icebergs
Has anybody ever seen one of them?
I never did, just on screenshots many years ago where they looked awesome or in the Trailer with the King George V.
They are present in the ship list files, so I think they have to be placed like ships in the world.....

They have been seen in multiplayer games and there is one picture from a career game in the 'screenshots' thread of SubSim. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=83681 (page 78)
I haven't managed to see them though and I'm playing the game for almost 18 months now :x
Never seen one either, except in one of the stock single missions. (And some custom ones)
If you use sh3Gen you can get the locations of icebergs, theyre not very common though..

I've never seen an iceberg in my career either. On another matter, did subs go under the icepack in WW II? It'd be cool to see that in a future Silent Hunter game.

I don't think they did this, as they required to surface quite often. Also they were quite fragile so I guess they wouldn't like to take any chances with the icepack. This is just speculation though as I don't know for sure :D
Bad luck.......
OK, I agree with WW2 subs not going under Icepack, even if they could dive for 2 days they just had no HF-Sonar like todays Nukesubs, which meant they would pretty soon have hit the "keel" of an iceberg. And after seeing what kind of damage such a thing has done to the Titanic, a VIIC would surely be done for.....

I never see one iceberg in SH3.. despite i travel nord until i arrive to the ice cap.
:damn: :damn:
i colided because i left the computer in acelerated time.
I think that the global warming is modelled in the sim because when i arrive to the ice cap it was in brown colour, not white ..and no icebergs.
I have seen icebergs i belive i saw them somwhere around iceland...

If you want icebergs then why not put a heap in the right places in your campaign with the editor.

Just seen on the news that the ice bergs are 80 kilometers off the coast of new zealand . They have taken seven years to drift from antarctica .

That is correct, sober. A news crew flew out in a helicopter and landed on one of 'em. Quite big news in NZ. Very very spectacular, jagged, sculpted-looking berg - 100m high at the spire and 200m long, squarish in plan.

if you open up campaign.RND (might be campaign.SCR i forget) you can see where the bergs are randomly generated, theres very few so chances of spotting them are tiny.
i downloaded a mission from somewhere that took place in a very iceberg populated area

Might be the one here at Subsim - scroll down to Custom Missions and look for `Ice Ice Baby`...
