Try this link for changing resolution http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=Display_Resolution and for AA/AF You may use Riva Tuner for better settings then nVidia control panel.

Display Resolution

As installed, SH3 doesn't offer you a choice for a display resolution setting. The game fixes it at 1024 x 768.
To override this limitation, SH3 modmaker Kegetys has developed a DLL file that permits greater display resolutions when playing SH3. Kegetys' SH3 Resolution Override DLL can be downloaded from one of the following links:

Mirror 1 (http://koti.mbnet.fi/kegetys/dl.php?f=dx9res10&e=zip) (http://koti.mbnet.fi/kegetys/dl.php?f=dx9res10&e=zip)
Mirror 2 (http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/dx9res10.zip) (http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/dx9res10.zip)
Mirror 3 (http://www.filefront.com/?filepath=/theofpfaq/sh3/SH3_Mod_DirectX9Res10.zip) (http://www.filefront.com/?filepath=/theofpfaq/sh3/SH3_Mod_DirectX9Res10.zip)Make sure you read the enclosed instructions to customize the DLL's configuration file, d3d9.cfg.

For Windows XP SP2 users:
We're not finished yet. In order to get Kegetys' DLL to work, you'll also need to install Microsoft's Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows/appcompatibility/default.mspx) (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows/appcompatibility/default.mspx) and perform the following procedure to customize it for SH3:

On Windows' Start menu, select "All Programs/Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.0/Tools" and run the Compatibility Administrator.
When the program opens, make sure "New Database" is highlighted under "Custom Databases", and click the "Fix" button.
In the "Name of program to be fixed" box, type "SH3". Now, click the browse button, and select the sh3.exe in your SH3 install directory. Then click on the "Next" button.
Under "Operating System Modes" select "None" and click the "Next" button.
In the "Compatibility Fixes" box, check DelayDLLInit, and click the "Parameters" button.
In the "Command Line" box, type "d3d9.dll" and click "OK". (You can click the "Test Run" button to make sure it is working). Click the "Next" button.
Click on the "Finish" button. Then click the "Save" button, name it "SH3", and click OK.
On the "File" menu, select "Install".
Close the Compatibilty Administrator.
Enjoy SH3 in high display resolution.

I just installed the above method to increase my resolution to 1600 x 1200 and it works great! However, it seems to have changed and degraded the screenshot function. Any ideas?

Yeah the normal print screen will give you a 1024x1024 picture of the center of the screen. Just press the print screen button for tga screenies:up:

The only thing that annoys me about this mod is that you can't alt-tab... and this has caused me to stop using it time and time again because it's just inconvenient. I just crank up AF and AA instead. Though I'll give it another shot when my new graphics card arrives.

I'm a bit of a latecomer to this thread, but I've just bought myself a new ASUS 22" widescreen monitor ( ), and need to run in 1650x1080, and this fix doesn't work for me.

I have run it properly, letter for letter. The only changes being that:

a) I'm running Vista - M$ say the application comp. toolkit works fine with Vista

b) My SH3 install is heavily modded. Do I need to rollback SH3C and uninstall all my mods before running it? One would think not, as it changes the .exe not any of the data files...

I only edited the cfg file to have the correct res. I didn't change anything else. Do I need to comment the lines with the res settings in or something?

Any help greatfully received.

Ta.

The only thing that annoys me about this mod is that you can't alt-tab...Using the method of Microsoft's Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit then you can.

To change the resolution in Windows XP SP2, you don't need to install the Microsoft's Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windows/appcompatibility/default.mspx). It is enough to use the files included in this link:

http://rapidshare.com/files/31171066/SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b.zip.html

Try them. It is much easier that way !!!

Another annoyance of the hires mod is that the cursor disappears at the bottom and right of the screen, the higher the res the further the mouse cursor will travel off the screen.
Thought: If the cursor is still moving over the entire screen at 1024x768 and anything higher the cursor is off the screen, the displayed picture on the screen must be 1024x768, not the higher res, or is it, quite a mind boggler!!
I wish there was a fix for this but I think it's hard coded!!

I could use some help with this please.

I was trying the older version of the fix Ihad (the one with the compatability tool usage) and it wasn't working, so I tried the new one with the 1.4b tag.

I'm pretty computer savvy, so I know I've done everything right, but the same thing happens to me with both res fixes..

The game loads fine, I get the GWX intro movie (the wolf), then I get the SH3 opening movie, then when it goes to the next loading screen, I can tell my resolution changes by the size of my mouse cursor that I can see, but the screen behind it is all black, and never recovers.

I can see the mouse, move it all around, it's at the right resolution, but where I should be seeing the loading screen with the torpedo and the red line across the bottom, I only have black screen.

I've tried to set it to my Monitors native 1680x1050 , and the resolution that the d3d9.cfg comes as (1280x960?) and the same thing happens each time.

Can anyone offer any help on this?

Please and Thank you.

Txema has right - download this file, read readme.txt and install. Everything work fine, I use it. This is the simplest way for use higher resolutions.

Still trying to figure out what's wrong on my end.

I have all my games (including SH3) on a seperate, secondary drive (not my OS C: drive).

Is it possible that I need to install the Res fix batch files in my C: Documents and settings/SH3 folder (where the main.cfg resolution file is) instead of my installed SH3.exe is? (F: Program files/UBisoft/SH3)

Other than that, I know I'm doing everything right, but there's a conflict somewhere.

I'll also note that, res fix aside, I can go into my Main.cfg file in the documents and settings folder, and manually change the resolution noted thee, and it has no effect on the game setting.

Hi!

I followed the readme instructions exactly and it worked OK for me. The ALT-TAB leaves me at the desktop with a minimized SH3 on the task bar.

I tried the SH3_xpsp2_res fix
It works and buts the game in to 1280-960
But I to would like to run it in 1280-1050
On my 22” I tried editing the d3d9 config
File I just put in 1050 instead of 960
And the game crashed? So there’s more to it
Then I think does any one know how to edit
It so it will work or is it something else I am
Doing wrong?

Might be a silly question since I assume you would already know, but I have to ask..

Are you certain that both your vid card and your monitor support that particular resolution? (1280x1050).

Seems like a non standard. If either doesn't support it, the game will crash.

PS: I still can't get past my blackscreen problems with this. I thought it might even be a Microsoft .NET framework issue because I had NET version 3, so I deleted that and left my NET at Version 2, and still no go.

Yes they both support that 1280-1050
SH4 runs in it no problem
All I did was unpack the SH3_xpsp2_res fix
In to the game and run it and it put the game in to
1280-960 I did notice that some of the mods I had
Added did not work so I did a new install and left
Them out of the game I am now running it in 1280-960 with
GWX with no problems maybe it’s a mod that’s giving you
A blank screen maybe you need a reinstall SH3 like I did
And then add the mods you want to try?

That's right Azn .... But who'd want to!
@ Monolith, when you refer to black screen is this in the menu screens or just in the main 3D game screen?
I must admit that this happened to me (in menus at start) a couple of time long ago & I can't remember what I did, I think it had something to do with drivers & going back to old ones fixed it!:yep: What card do you have nVidia or ATI?

Here is exactly what happens, and this is with both the older res fix (that uses the compatibility tool), and the newer fix with the batch files.

Game starts fine, first screen is the GWX wolf howling video (replaced the UBI video I guess).

Then is the SH3 opening movie clip, no problem.

Then I should get the loading screen of the sub launching that pretty black and copper torpedo while the red loading line moves across the bottom of the screen.

But I don't get that.

And it seems that this is the moment the resoultion attempts to change, because I can see my mouse cursor, and it is reduced in size as my resolution increased to 1680x1050. I can see and move the mouse cursor, but the loading screen behind it is all just black screen, no pretty torpedo.

Could be a driver conflict with the latest driver. ATI X1950 Pro with 7.4 Catalyst drivers.

Not quite sure I want to go back to an old driver when this is the only thing that has an issue.

Try this out, it will help point us in the right direction::yep:
Edit the d3d9.cfg file and set to a standard format of say 1024x768 then try running again, this will tell us if it's the hires d3d9 tool or not, if it works then try some other modes & will then take it from there!

MONOLITH
05-27-07, 10:17 AM
Will do.

I tried the 'stock number' that comes on the d3d9, but it was a no go. I'll try 1024x768.

My monitor is a widescreen 1680x1050.

I copied the Sh3_xpsp2_res fix in to my SH3 folder
And ran it that puts it in to 1080-960
Then I copied the two files from dx9res10.zip
Over writing the two files from the Sh3_xpsp2_res fix
Then I ran the Sh3_xpsp2_res fix again and it put the game in
To 1080-1025
So it must be when I try and edit the config file up to 1080-1050
Something is going wrong?
