I was thinking about the conning deck, and how it's available to you when you are on the surface and not when you are submerged. Or the deck gun (viariable being wind speed)

Would it be possible to allow the external camera to be viewable except when there are tommys about - say 30KM or so?

Everyone put on your thinking caps ;)

The Honor system. :)

Besides if you did set this up via a mod, people would use it as an automatic 30km instant enemy detector. Just leave the camera and don't use it to check out other ships.

Ive found the best way to prvent myself from Cheating with the external cam', was simply to remark out the next and previous target camera. This way, i can't instantly look at sound contacts and know what they are, or scroll the camera around from contact to contact gathering info. IE, does this merchant have a deck gun? whats his nationality? where did my torpedo's hit?? what kind of escort is this? what are the fat targets inside this convoy? etc etc.

So now all i have is the F12 freecam. I can still view the outside of my sub, i can still take great screenshots, but any view away from the sub takes an effort to obtain now by having to physically move around the freecam. And it's tedious nature, discourages me from using it too much. The only major caviet is i can still look at whats directly above me when getting depth charged.

Thanks for the responses.

Yes, in my career before this one I had the camera primarily to have an addition view on those days when nothing was about (and I was changing skins to settle on one - Krumm's VIIC won btw) on and I could see above me and I found that there were times when I gave in.

Now I have gone back to it being off.

Last night I crept in (using sales 6 dials forr NYGM for the first time - my god what a great mod that is btw) and had the camera off. That got me thinking as I was making my egress at 220m how nice it would be once the contacts had faded to be able to have the external view back again.

I suspect the functionality is hard coded and not handled by any of the configs that we can tweak. Sure would love to find out though.

That's fun though!! It's a very thin line between "cheating" with the external cameras and watching cinematic scenes of your own destruction! :) Personally I enjoy leaving both options open. heh

I think theres posiblities in the event camera. Onlly problem is when the event camera pops up, you know somethings about to happen. IE, getting depth charged. Event cam pops up, you know their close. BUT, its usually too late to do much about it, so all you can do is watch the show.

Therein lies a problem, its usually to dark to see anything. You could lighten the underwater visiblity to make it less murky, but at that point id be encouraged to turn the external cmera off altogther. Another prollbem is the temptation of using the observation periscope to spot the depth charges, which you shouldnt be able to do.
