With the help of the great community here on subsim (especially Danlisa), i am currently working a winter camo skin to the type IIA (My first seriouse on..). Its fictious, and just for fun.. But there is one problem: I cant seem to get access to the conning tower after i installed this skin. When i press the button on the slide out bar, nothing happens......weird...(....help?....) This skin is dedicated to safe-keeper, and his ongoing norwegian operations project! Keep up the good work, mate!!:up:

The problem with the Conning Tower access is a strange one. Did you re-pack the Dat's or just do this with the textures folder?
Was there any message in Chessmaster's GUI following the re-pack?

I got your PM, its answered! :up: I repacked the dat, i didnt use the texture folder at all. No error messages during repack, only the successfull message.
In the .dat for the IIA there was only the hull.tga file, nothing else. Maybe there should be a conning.tga (or something) wich also had to be edited? I couldnt find any related to the IIA...

Also, IIRC, when you repack the dat's it creates zon/sim/cam files + a backup ending in ...000, these are not nessecary for skinning and can be removed before enabling via JGSME. Maybe these extra files are the problem.

I found these files connected to the IIA:

Turm2A_1_hd.dat (file:///E:/Fraps/Ny%20mappe/Turm2A_1_hd.dat)
Turm2A_1_hd.sim (file:///E:/Fraps/Ny%20mappe/Turm2A_1_hd.sim)
Turm2A_1_hd.val (file:///E:/Fraps/Ny%20mappe/Turm2A_1_hd.val)
Turm2A_1_hd.zon (file:///E:/Fraps/Ny%20mappe/Turm2A_1_hd.zon)
Turm2A_1_hd.cam (file:///E:/Fraps/Ny%20mappe/Turm2A_1_hd.cam)
(It's not linked, i just copyed them from a temp folder to get their names quickly..)
They are located in my C:\Programfiler\Ubisoft\SH3-GW\data\Objects folder
I'll guess its the .dat file i have to do something with....:hmm:

Aren't there AI versions of this sub on patrol near ports.

They also have separate dat files. So you'll need to be carefull that you're working on the 'Players' version.

(:damn: It's hard to remember this when at work.)

Yes, you are right! There are other IIA files. Those mentioned above is for the AI i think, because there is another turm2a_hd.dat for the GW mod! Is this the one i should work on (the GW one)?

Skinning cant be that hard then, since someone from the northern regions of Norway can master it! :D

Yeah, the "hillbillies from northern Norway!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: You should give it a try, Stabiz! Its really cool, and you have a lot of guys here on subsim that will help you out if you get stuck!

Ok...I tried to launch a game with the JIRM +Grey wolves + IO mod enabled. Same thing happend, couldnt access the conning tower OR the periscope on the IIA. I'm thinking this couldnt have to do with the repaint.... I will try some other boats, just to be sure...

edit: I tried the flower power boat, and the scope and conning access worked like a charm.

No, i enabled the skin directly by repacking the .dat file. I've uploaded the folder NSS_Uboat2A to filefront (It's in .rar format), its located here:

If you had the time, you could have a look at it, while i try to see if i have done anything wrong...:-?

Jeeezzz........I dont know what IO stand for, its just something i found over at Terrapin.. and no, i didnt roll back....shame on me...:nope: Thats the number 1 rule, i know.....I'll try following your advice,mate, and work outside of SHIII directory, and then make it JSGME compatible. Here is the VIIC version! With access to the conning tower and all!
I understood, that i also had to copy the hull.tga and deck.tga to the texture/TNormal/tex folder. Togheter with the .dat file, it made the case!

Did you know that the VIIB & VIIC can be skinned by just using the textures.

Have a look at the file structure for Bernards Pink Boat. That way you can keep it a small download.

Here it is! Just unrar and place the folder in your mods folder. Then enable with JSGME!
It should work, at least it worked for me...... Please, tell me if it doesnt, so i can fix it.
There are only two .tga files in this mod, sicnce i learned that the ViiB and ViiC can be repainted without messing with the .dat file.

Terapin will as soon as he can I believe. Besides, everyone can always get mods at his site anytime. There's no limit to how long they stay, like at RapidShare.

I don't know what's wrong at filefront or if it's me. I sat for over half an hour last week, to see how long it would take, waitng for the page to open to get a download. After the 1/2 hour I said to heck with it. I did get into Seth's lastnight tho after 3 tries. But after that nuthing.
