Hi guys!

Problem 1. The radio messages are not appearing on the message pad. The Morse code happens, the radio operator advises of the messages but after hitting "M," the page is blank.

I do have all the radio messages from GW in a Word document, in chronological order, so that I don't miss any as I keep FTB's (Radio Logs), as well as KTB's, for my patrols. It is simply a matter of noting the time the message is received and comparing it to the times of transmission of messages for that day.

Problem 2. In a Type II she was down to 50% fuel as I left Skagerrak heading towards Scotland on a new patrol. Had to divert to Wilhelmshaven. Travel had been at a speed on the surface of 10 kts.

Will she get a fuel reload there so that I can resume the patrol? I put the problem down to a ruptured fuel tank and the subsequent trail of oil leaving the boat as un-stealthy as the Titanic.

Any help would be appreciated.

Problem 1 ?
Problem 2; you get new fuel, but your patrol area will be null; you will therfore not get renown for reaching your patrol area (500) or staying there (100).

Are you using SH3 Commander v2.6?
If so, your excessive fuel usage could be due to a random malfunction, generated by SH3 Commander (to simulate the effects of a fuel leak).

Of course, you MAY have pushing your boat too hard and just gulped down more diesel than you should have!;) Most efficient speed for fuel consumption is usually around 7-9 knots (not too sure about a Type II).

Hope this helps!

Thanks guys.

I do use SH3Commander, and maybe that was the reason. I would have thought that 10 knots was not pushing it too hard, particularly as that was the escort's speed out of Kiel.

So, will try again from Wilhelshaven.

To check the most efficient speed, set the speed and then ask the nav officer the maximum distance for that speed; then go up and down in speed and repeat the question. You will soon know the maximum speed for maximum distance.

 THX Irish....I should have added that part too!

......Also remember the the "most efficient" speed does NOT always stay the same.
It is affected by the weather / sea state.
What, in 0 mps winds, could have been Standard speed as most efficient, could change to 1/2 rd Speed during "heavy weather" with 15 mps winds.

It really does pay to keep talking to your crew!! That's what they are there for!;)

Thanks Mountainman and Irish. I will follow your suggestion.

It appears nobody has any thoughts on fixing the radio message problem.
