Hi Mates, I´m doing a l ot of modding my SH3 sound files but I´ve got severe problems with the voice files (.ogg-files): using one or two modded files MAY work fine, others cause immediate CTD. I know it must have to do with the encoder used. I tried both a direct .ogg-export from an ordinary "Sound-Studio"-software and I tried to convert from wav into ogg with WinVorbis-Converter. I´ve got a brandnew UltraSound 3D PCI Soundcard from ultron and the latest drivers. Can anyone help? Cheers, AS

If you think it is your converter, try a search of the forus for ogg. That should bring up a thread with a link to a free converter, dbPowerAmp I believe. Make sure your converted files match the same specs as the game files mHz and mono/stereo. Very long files ( +30 secs) also seem to cause some looping problems. Hope this helps.

Make sure they're mono; SHIII speech hates stereo .ogg files.

what about music .ogg files for the grammaphone? stereo or mono? I kinda like having stereo in 1940....I hear its going to be the wave of the future....

People say .ogg files are best for the gramaphone. I convert them to .wav myself, and I change them to mono. I'm not sure about mono for the gramaphone files, but I figure why take the chance. As to "wave of the future", I've actually experimented with sound filters to make them sound more "tinny". Nothing I like yet, though.

Hi Sailor Steve, you are "my man" since I love your sound files. Now you seem to know about how to use ogg files without causing crashes. Which software do you use? I also don´t know about the Bitrate setting- one of my encoders asks me if I´d like "variable bitrate" or "constant bitrate"...

Another interesting thing is the possible length of wave files in SH3: I made a really good ambient-interior sound file which is about 5 minutes or so. It plays well, but once it´s finished it does NOT restart. On the other hand, if I cut it to about 1:30 min. it loops fine... SH3 surely has its limitations when it comes to sounds, eh?

Cheers, AS

I personally use Goldwave www.goldwave.com (http://www.goldwave.com) , but there are several good free ones out there. Once a file is loaded into Goldwave it shows what the manner of the file is: cycles per second, stereo or mono etc, which makes it easy to match from the dropdown list.

My ambient interior file is the SHIII Internal Life mod, which is about 10 minutes long, and it repeats with no problem.

Hi, I used to use an old version of Wavelab but this caused CTD's with ogg files so I purchased a 2nd hand version of Sony Sound Forge 7 (still cost me AU $200) but it's now fully registered & love it, oh getting a little carried away here!:rotfl:
Anyway all my ogg files work a treat now! Haven't tried Goldwave but obviously works well too. Hi Sailor Steve is that you in your avator, just curious!:D
Cheers.

Hi Steve, thanks for your answer. I´m now using the free dBpower AMP Music Inverter- silly name, good tool and for free. (If anyone else wants to use it, make sure you download the corresponding dBpowerAMP-codecs as well).

Now everything runs fine and I can finally mod my SH3 voices.

@SailorSteve: can I download your interior-file somewhere? I send you my sound-file via email, if you like. Cheers, AS

Can anyone alter the helm orders in German to actually match what is written on the helm indicator?

This really bugs me as the Germans never used "Eine drittefahrt Voraus." (I think I have spelled that correctly.)

(I think I have spelled that correctly.)

You didn't. It's "Ein Drittel fahrt voraus". :know:

Use any of the Das Boot Sound Mods (preferably mine, of course).:rotfl:

They all use clips of Jurgen Prochnow giving the correct orders, plus you get the added effect of crewmen repeating them. All are good, most are great, the crash dive is to die for (or at least thinking you're about to).
