Hi mate, and welcome. I suggest you download JSGME mod enabler (from www.subsim.com ) . this is for keeping control with all the different excellent mods out there. When you have installed it in your sh3 folder, you just put the mods in the MODS folder. Then start jsgme , and add the mods. Simple as that!

I created an 'SH3' folder in 'My Documents', just to hold every single mod I've downloaded. I'm not even using 10% of all the mods, but I like to keep them just in case. I also have one for SH2 and Destroyer Command, for the same reason.

I install all my mods manually, rather than use JSGME, because I like to fiddle. Listen to Seth; his idea is best.

To use JSGME, try following the step-by-step instructions at http://forums.ubi.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/857101043/m/3031058373
It also provides screenshots to make it easier.

Thank you for all your help and suggestions re mods. I have a hard time seeing the compass readings, I'm just a tad past 21 by about 45 years :). Anyone know of a mod that will improve the clarity and increase the size of the numbers??

Thanks again,
Larry

Try the "6-Dials Simfeeling Mod". It's a little hard to install but the results are great:
