Back in 1982 a ancient whiskey class submarine ran aground in swedish waters, many theorys have come out about how it happend what i would like to know i what you think about this issue.
So what do you guys think happend?
What took place in Swedish waters in the 1980s is far from straight forward but I would be looking in a westerly direction for an answer!

No, I'm anything but a scotch maven.
This is about the cold war and Swedish neutrality conspiracies (http://gatesofvienna.blogspot.com/2006/11/whiskey-on-rocks-25-years-old.html). I hope SubSimmers find it interesting.

Sweden was in no way nutrel they passed alot of info to NATO
Sweden during the eighties had a left wing government which caused concern to NATO and its own military.Throughout the period there were a number of submarine incursions which were initially blamed on the CCCP.However a lot of current thinking would suggest the real culprit was the USN/RN.See my link above to the site written by Ole Tunander and his book. Some of you may remember a German Luftwaffe unit called KG200.They operated allied aircraft against the allies-procuring a whiskey would have been relatively straightforward. As well as pushing the Swedes towards NATO it would have raised questions in the Kremlin regarding the loyalty of the Soviet submarine force. This was only ten years after an incident with a soviet warship that went renegade!Make your own minds up-my bet was on the west rather than east.
Meh, both sides got up to tricks like that. I know the website AL linked to, it's a partner organisation of the one I work for and it's pretty good lots of reliable info and usually objective.
