Dame Vera Lynn, DBE (born Vera Margaret Welch on 20 March 1917) is an English singer and actress whose musical recordings and performances were enormously popular during World War II. During the war she toured Egypt, India and Burma, giving outdoor concerts for the troops. She was called "The Forces' Sweetheart"; the songs most associated with her are "We'll Meet Again" and "The White Cliffs of Dover". She remained popular after the war, appearing on radio and television in the UK and the United States and recording such hits as "Auf Wiederseh'n Sweetheart" and "My Son, My Son". In 2009 she became the oldest living artist to make it to No. 1 on the British album chart, at the age of 92. She has devoted much time and energy to charity work connected with ex-servicemen, disabled children and breast cancer. She is still held in great affection by veterans of the Second World War and in 2000 was named the Briton who best exemplified the spirit of the twentieth century.

There was no video for this Jim. It was from the Movie Soundtrack " Eddie and the cruisers, Part 2, Eddie lives. The music for that was written, played and provided by John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band. I chose this because the Audio Component was of an excellent quality and gives the listener a good idea how the song was engineered on the album. John has been around a long time and heavily influenced another " Jersey Boy ", Bruce Springsteen. John Cafferty captures and defines the quintessential " Jersey Sound " so well. " I did find John Cafferty performing the song live although the audio quality is of poor quality. I hope you Enjoy it Jim. Great picture Jim and a happy day for all involved, I'm sure. The bride looks like a Bonny Lass and the " Proud Father " didn't look too shabby either. Last edited by Commander Wallace; 03-08-18 at 09:16 AM. |

Cheers CW, a weekend I'll never forget and an occasion that continually reduces me to emotional tears when I look at the video compilations and photos

The conversation with JimBuna yesterday got me thinking about artists that encapsulate that " Old School " feel. Years ago, a guitar teacher told me, " If you want to play well, look to the originators, not the Imitators for inspiration . " For my money, those names would be John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown band, Bob Segar, John Mellencamp and a very under rated Bryan Adams. Bryan Adams can switch from soulful ballads to " balls to the wall " straight up Rock and Roll. Jim Croce can be added to that list too. I'm sure others can add more names as well.
Another would be Van Morrison. Anyone remember this gem of a classic ? Last edited by Commander Wallace; 03-09-18 at 08:12 PM. |
