SHO [WIP] IJN Musashi

WELCOME TO YOSHIDA & KARLE'S NEXT PROJECT

IJN MUSASHI

Me and karle are working on bring the IJN Musashi, which will be accurate to it's blue prints and to it's statistics. While taking a look around the models of the game in S3D I found that the Yamato wasn't all that accurate and it wasn't even close in some respects. I looked around and found that adding another Yamato mod would be a waste of time and well, wouldn't serve my interests just adding onto a list of like three mods.

I have found the perfectly detailed model, tweaked and optimized it and have decided with Karle's expertise that we're going to add her as a playable and AI ship, She'll be playable for 1.5 for now on the US side due to the back story I'm giving the Mod. I'm hoping that once she's in game and tested, if any of the creators of the bigger mods such as the FOTRS and others would like her in their mods then it would be my please to allow that, as long as credit is given to both Me and Karle.

Here are three images of her, and her armaments:

Notice the level of detail around the aft of the ship, with the basic game model all that detail is lost, also the stern of the ship is modelled incorrectly and it really does look a lot better, when one only takes the time. Also the Bow of the ship is now correct but there are some details that need to be addressed, like the famous crest and a minor correction that needs addressing.

Here is the main turrets, done very nicely and only a few slight changes need to be made to them, notice the level of detail on the turret, everything you see in that model is historically correct and will most certainly add to the ships realism. Will also be adding the AA gun mounts to them as she did in fact have them as well.

And this is her secondary turret, very nice detail and again very accurate to photos and reference images found on Google. All these models have been broken down to smaller sized files to allow for easier insertion into S3D and the the game.
Here is a link to an image detailing the ship in great detail.

The texture I'm putting on the ship will be the one shown in the Image at the top of this topic, Notice the tints of gold on the weapons, all of the Musashi's guns will have these gold tinted barrels, I will also be giving her the same dark grey, with the beautiful colored deck and the misty grey covers on the main guns. I hope that this mod will live up to your hope for it will be our greatest work.

Looking at possible materials to assign to the Musashi, there is an image that shows a surface like material that gives it an uneven look, I'll post a pick once I've finished with the model. And you guys tell me what you think.

--------Edit--------

Notice the way it looks, almost like a wallpaper texture, I don't yet know how to make this material so I'm going to do some research on it. Hopefully also I'd like to know what those covers are on the deck gun barrels, I need to do some research.

Here is a shot of the super structure, with the weapons (Not all of them due to the size) as you can see I've taken the liberty of adding the AA mounts to the deck guns, hope you like it so far

I'm now working on the deck, hull, rudder and propeller, will post again soon.

Here is the whole model, I added the wires you can see in the top image as well as the railings around the ship

Hope you like the model, I'm now hoping to get started on preparing her for the game.

Definitely a must watch mod!
Can I suggest making her playable for the US first? As this might add some uniqueness over other Yamato class playables.

PS: how many polygons?? And what software??

My intention was to make her playable on US side first due to me wanting to take her against a Yamato. I am going to allow those responsible FOTRS to make her playable for that campaign but we'll see what happens.

And she is close to 900k verts, and just under 1,700,000 faces, poly's I have no idea but she's pretty big.

Great! One question though: will it have a fully modeled bridge??
EDIT: if I could I will make a full damage model ie taking multiple torpedo hits, sinking agonizingly slow, etc
Can't wait!

I've been looking for plans, or photos of the bridge of the yamato class but I'm finding it difficult to find any reference images, I'd love a damage model for the ship, If you want message me with some ideas or post them on the topic so that others can give their own ideas on it.

I do believe that the stock damage model should suffice.

Yoshida, I was thinking of a high detail model, with full sinking mechanics, enhanced damage threshold and, of course, accurate sensors with accurate damage thresholds, plus a little eye candy for the model won't hurt, ie when a hole is blown in the deck, you can see down into the ship instead of empty space, plus it would be in full 3d, I can take care of the Damage thresholds and karle or you could do the 3d work.
I got permission from someone to do a Yamato playable for the US a while back, and I have the files on my external that I could use for a template.
I will look around the interweb for a pic/layout of the musashis bridge.
