Sub Command: Speech Recognition

Just bought the naval pack on steam and have been just... blown away by naval sim games. Never really tried them before.

SC works great, except I can't get voice recognition to work, it's completely grayed out in the options menu. Tried internal and external mic, windows speech recog options, disabled steam overlay... don't know what to do. Anyone else getting it to work with windows 7?

Thanks

I wish I had an answer for you, but to be honest, I never found any real reason to use it. Even if you got the speech function to work, you would need to take the time to train the engine to respond to your voice. If the calibration is bad or if you have a distinct variation in your voice, the command will not take.

Still... I think it would make things way more fluid. And when I do use it to dictate, for other stuff, it comes out pretty clear. Know anything I could try? Without it I'm constantly clicking buttons, change heading this that make depth blah blah... wish I could just say it!!
Help?

What is the language version of your Windows? Also, which Windows? XP, Vista, 7 ... Home basic, Home premium, Profesional, Ultimate, etc.

Windows 7 Home Premium. Language: English US. In 'advanced options' for speech recognition it says "Microsoft speech recognizer 8.0 for windows".

Been trying to find a way to download a previous version of the speech program, but no luck.... this one comes with Win 7.

I've tried with the 'start listening' box for speech recog on the screen, not started, run at startup, "listening", not 'listening'.... hmmmm

Sometimes it pauses like it's going to activate when i enter options.... but still no.

Ideas?

Anyone else got any other ideas? For those who have it working? Are they running windows 7? Any special things they had to do, like updating drivers etc? Or they could just select voice commands right from the start...

Any help would be appreciated.
Installed entire steam directory to get this working... again to no avail.
