Damn.
That carrier is in that red patrol region south-west of UK. Easiest way to find it is patrol that area in zig-zags, whenever you see one of those *blue* sonar tracks, save your game, then run an intercept into the blue track/s using time compression to work out its direction, your necessary speed etc...Once you get close enough you are looking for a an outer layer of destroyers guarding a central warship, thats more likely than not the carrier. use your external camera to make sure.

You'll run into many smaller dstroyer groups of about 4 or 5 ships. They are red herrings.

Just use this technique of saving in between contact and investigating so you can load the old saves to rejig your search etc..without wasting too much diesel and time.

Nice stories and thanks for the tips

I have no troubles with hitting the right ships in the Northern mission.
Have sunk 3 ships in an half hour playing.

But now i do know where i can find that beast

i completed this mission finding the 5 ships in ports... and.. in the sea i destroyed HMS Queen elisabeth !! after when i was in a port for those ships... i found another Queen elisabeth ! (sunk too)

with only 3 torpedoes i've still 70% of fuel... so head for the carrier... maybe...
i saw a plane flying over me... i headed for his back... and haha carrier + escorts.
I sneaked trought he convoy because i use 1 2 3 method... in the other one i don't know why but only 30% of my torpedoes hit
and 3 torps on that ship.. and wow.. pretty well... sunk... after some seconds the plane i met in the sea came back! haha, where he will land w/o fuel
i ran away at 80m depth... away from those escorts

next mission! a problem too -.-" tryed it and got stuck in the campaign like limbo... with that campaign failed because i haven't found any battleship around that land!

The carrier task force appears on January 23 1940. It can be found in the carrier patrol circle in the very centre square and to the top left.

10 degrees west 49 degrees north direction WSW

Hope that helps

Michals, did the same thing. And I also found a port in Scotland near the read line where these cruisers seems to spawn. But I'm not doing it anylonger because I would rather sink ships at open sea like they did in real life

I found the carrier just south of Plymouth. It is being escorted by assorted warships. In a formation much like this......

It was just spread out a lot more.

Tube 4 just barely clips the bow, but in this strange damage model, it's enough. One small boom, immediately followed by the mother of all explosions as the whole ship just goes pop.

The bow sinks rapidly, and soon the stern is sticking up out of the water. I hear that massive metallic 'BOOM' as the bow hits the bottom, and the map registers the kill.

I cheer a little (5 years of silent hunting and this is my first AC kill ever) but it feels a little... flat. I did the whole thing manually, (and badly too, given how only 1 eel of a salvo of 4 hit) but honestly... a single impact triggered torp on the bow of an aircraft carrier should barely have left a SCRATCH.

In SH3 I would've had to sit on the bottom reloading for another few hours, and then tried again, while ashcans rained around me. Instead I blew the HMS Ark Royal out of the water with one badly aimed shot, and slid on out of the harbour without the DD escort even putting up a fight.

NOT A SINGLE DEPTH CHARGE was dropped in the whole business.

I'm glad I got away with it and completed the mission. I'm glad I got my first AC kill. But I really wish they'd made it harder for me. even if they'd just fired up the search lights and pinged around the place a bit I would've felt like I'd achieved something more significant...

Anyone else have similar experiences?
Question; Do you have TDW's IRAI loaded up?? I'm just wondering, 'Cause I'm seeing a lot of posts here with no DD's dropping anything and I'm wondering the same about those as well. IRAI is supposed to really make things a quite a bit more interesting, including air attacks. I've been using it and the DD's seem pretty dangerous. I haven't got in any jams yet but that may just be a matter of time.

well doesn't matter anymore ^^ mission time ran out as I invaded scapa flow and in the end I sunked 510.000 BRT from september to march.
So I hope it doesn't matter that much =D

but the to find the AMC was esier then the carrier ._.

funny thing is... as I shipped from Bremerhaven to Lorriet I stumbled upon a big warship fleet with one fleetcarrier.
Infiltrated the fleet and sunk the carrier. right at the start of the campaign =/

IRAI seems to work very well with convoy escorts, and if you get pinged by a HK group you'll be in for one looong night!
But, it doesn't seem to affect DDs on point duty at ports. Unless they themselves spot you, they will continue to patrol their waypoints, despite the mayhem you are wreaking
all around them.

I completed this mission when I figured out what AMC meant. Armed Merchant Cruser, Duh. then I think (I am in the Scapa Flow at the time) what kind of ship is that? Armed Merchant Cruser? I shoot, sink it, check map, think **** YEEAAHH It counts! 2 trips to scapa and mission complete. And for the last 2 campaigns I've always found the carrier in the begining.
P.S. the Nelson class battle ships don't exist anymore
