I watched this last night, there was footage there I have never seen before, also that colour footage of a type IX was very pleasing to behold, especially with it diving and surfacing.

This truly is a very nice piece, also your modelling of a sharks, that'll give Penny something else to look for when she goes to the carribean in her IXC/40, besides sinkables.

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. I hope everyone who watches it enjoys it, especially you guys from the GWX dev team. Keep up the great work!!

Now, about the considerably longer length. I made the choice to make it long because this game itself is 1) a simulation of real-life events, 2) The battle of the atlantic (the setting for this game) was the longest battle of the largest war in the history of the world. The sea lanes were literally the life line of the Allied nations and without the sacrifices made, things would be a little different than they are today wouldnt they?
Besides, you can bypass the intro anytime by pressing the spacebar, mouse button etc...Thanks again everyone.

Man this intro movie really rocks.

Where did you get this much colour footage? And do you know anything about the various conning tower designs, I mean some of them looked nothing like the ones we have in SH3.

The footage itself is from a 5 disc DVD set I bought several years ago titled "WWII Battlefront" Disc 2 episode 3 "The U-boat War". I was wasting some time at Target a few years back and spotted it for $20. Its not exactly on par with "The World At War" or the recent "The War" by Ken Burns but if youre a WW2 afficianado such as myself its a gold mine, and all 25 episodes are in color\colorized. Ive been sitting on the idea for some time and wasnt sure even HOW people made movies using video (this is actually the first movie Ive ever made for anything) until I ran across a link for Xmpeg.

Im not exactly sure about those conning tower designs. If anyone has any information I would also like to know. Also the end sequence where the U-boat is picking up survivors is almost assuredly the infamous Laconia Incident. You can read more about it at these links:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laconia_incident
http://uboat.net/boats/u156.htm
http://www.uboataces.com/battle-laconia.shtml

A sad note is that U-156 which initiated the rescue operations and actually broadcast a plea for help on an open frequency was sunk with all hands on March 8, 1943.

I think the strange looking tower with the huge gun in the front could be U-A.

Intro doesn't go to game, it goes to "Hall of Fame". Great work MTG; I hope, you win an "Oscar".
The strange U-boot coul be HM S/M Seal, captured by Kriegsmarine and commisioned as U-B on 11/30/1940.

I'm wrong: Yes, she is U-A. Thanks Rimfaxi!
