merchant fleet mod install difficulties...

im struggling to activate Merchant Fleet Mod 3.2
I have read the 'readme' and remain uncertain as what to do.
ive tried to install it and the game will not open once
GWX screen has loaded.
could some explain how it is done.
im not sure how to install the skin packs - the install sequence.

here is my activated mod list:

Generic Mod Enabler - v2.6.0.157

GWX - Alternate Loadscreen - Full Circle
GWX - Lite Harbor Traffic

you should be able to install them over gwx and saying yes to anything that the mod overwrites, skin packs are not necesary to install only if you want more imersion then you activate the sking pack using JGSM, so you copy all skin folders to MODS folder and activate the one you want... or you can play without it works fine too... if you are having crash to desktop right before loading bar finishes install this http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=2889 (just select sh3 exe and patch), you also have a fix for playing in higher resolution here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1092

I've tried these approaches and I'm not having any luck. its keeps locking up and crashing just before games loads on GWX.

this is what I get with the 4Gg patch for SH3 without star force.
I'm a bit stumped as what to do...any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Last but not least - it's very heavy mod and you should using it install 4GB patch or use hsie's v16B1 exe patch (4GB patch included). Without this patch you will have CTDs very often, especially in career mode.

For some reason or the other I also have had problems in applying the 4GB patch. This version from Living Silent Hunter worked at that time. Maybe you can try this one:

If it doesn't work you can try installing H.sie's mod. It does the 4GB patching semiautomatically.

many thanks sublynx...unfortunately my skills at installing complex mods like h.sie's are almost nil. I do have it on my desk top though, so maybe i'll have another go.
what does the 4gig patch do anyway?
I have a quad core + 8gig of ram with a amd radeon hd 6670 card, surely this should be enough?

SH3 out of the box can only use 1 or is it 2 GB of memory. (It was made for XP.) Your machine has the memory but without patching the game, the game can only utilize a small portion of it.

H.sie's mod can be a bit demanding to install, but he has made very good instructions on how to do it. Be sure to take backups, if you want to try that, though!

Copy the file you are about to start changing.

Paste.

Rename. For example if it is menu_1024_768.ini you could change the name to menu_1024_768flag4backup.ini
