Default ATI Clock settings - CCC - Help!!

This is driving me insane, a whole day and I'm back to start!
First off I installed latest driver and Tray Tools, only to discover that the fan speed is no longer changeable even so I set it up and got the new 6850 card overclocking, not great but not bad:

However I was still peeved with not being able to change the fan speed so I decided to uninstall Tray Tools and install the CCC, I can change the fan speed to manual but the clock speeds are crazy:

Before I uninstalled Tray tools I made sure I set clocks back to default.
Why does it show current values at 300mhz especially on both?
Why doesn't it reflect the values above that have been applied?
Why does the memory for Tray Tools hover around 4,500mhz but the CCC is around 1050mhz?
This is very confusing!!!

Driver uses settings created by CCC, so it's not recommended not to install CCC.
Your CCC is an old version? You must use same versions...

Your clocks are 2D-clocks. Only when you enter 3D-mode will clocks speed up to your profile settings.

Stay away from Tray Tools btw...

I would use the Uninstall All AMD Option in Add/Remove programs and do a fresh install of latest AMD driver and CCC.

Believe it or not that is version 11.6, installed from this file:
11-6_xp32_dd_ccc_ocl.exe from http://sites.amd.com/us/game/downloa...eon_xp-32.aspx
In device manager driver version for the card:

Driver Date 24/05/2011
Driver Version 8.861.0.0

I have since removed it, certainly there is something wrong because the functions are erratic!
All I am running at the moment is the latest driver (presumably) and Trixx.
I believe the card is functioning well it is just that fan control has changed and I'm getting confused between 2D and 3D clocks!!
Edit:
Re-installed it:

Maybe you are running Win 7 and is a lot different than XP.

That's it! Win 7 is completely different...

Btw. the 4200MHz mem speed is calculated effective mem speed (QDR RAM) = 1050 x 4 = 4200 MHz... kinda useless imho

If you like to OC, have a look at MSI Afterburner. Cool features, among other things a superior alternative to Fraps!

I think I read somewhere about issues with fan speed when OC'ing, but can't locate it... typical. Will report back, if I find it again.

Yes I might have to try it, Trixx seems to work with custom and love this setting until you minimize Trixx, then it stops!! resore it and starts working again!!
I think there is a clash with CCC v11.6!

Edit:
Now MSI Afterburner seems to work well with the fan speed control and even able to monitor the core temperature on the task bar, but wouldn't you know it, the core voltage control doesn't work even though it is enabled in preferences! I might have to just live with lower OC speeds!

just curious, but how much exactly do you gain/loose with/without your OC compared to stock?

From what I've seen, I'm more leaning towards it's not really worth the hassle to OC the GPU(s)... am I right?

The default clock is 775mhz and the memory is 1000mhz when overclocked I can get 875/1175mhz, I have just found out that earlier versions of this card the voltage could be adjusted to 1.2v, this one is locked, can't be changed, I think it is 0.95v though Trixx says 1.175v! GPU-Z reports .95v though no monitoring shows. Rather disappointing since my decision to purchase this is on the recommendations of a review, that now seems to be an earlier version! It is better to buy the non OC version!

Always is: save the money and OC it yourself.

Put the cash you save towards a fancy coolerperhaps.

This help? http://forums.amd.com/forum/messagev...hreadid=146284

*nvm that I guess, thought you still had a clock problem.

The clock readout confusion was between 2D/3D, plus this card can't be overclocked much because the core voltage is set! But now I have a texture problem with Trainz!! Nothing ever goes straight up!!! Now if I had to guess I'd say that because I am using XP 32bit and the new card is 1Gb instead of 512Mb I'm running out of ram!!

Was that already installed when you swapped the cards?
You might want to try to play with the video configuration like toggling between low and high and see if the texture problem still happens

also does the game have In-game AA and AF settings? if they do and you have them enabled make sure the ATI control panel is not overriding them with his own AA and AF settings, if they do toggle them back to Application default

(About the voltage lock)
Quote:
GIGABYTE ruined their AMD HD 6850 OC version by using a non-common Core voltage controller which has no software support, which means we're limited to stock voltage overclocking.

You may have hit the nail on the head!! Never thought of that, I will do some tests!

You were correct Wim!! I changed to OpenGL and the problem was gone, I have CCC AA set to environment rather than Application controlled for games such as SH3, I will change this back then try again Trainz with DirectX!
Hope there is an improvement because the new card still jerks around, maybe one of the following problems:
1) Upgrade from Win XP 32bit to Win 7 64 bit and up the ram to 8Gb
2) Upgrade the CPU from dual core Phenom II to 4 core!

Well that is a poo!! OpenGL works with poor frame rates, DirectX has better fraps but the texture problem is still there regardless of changing the CCC settings to application controlled!!
