Default Sub School Convoy

I have a question about the sub school convoy mission. Are the destroyers' effectivness reduced in the mission? I think there were three destroyers. After using up all but one torpedoes (manual targeting, need help on the speed, hehe) a destroyer and a cargo ship stopped near the giant tanker. I saw my chance. All ships were stopped and the target was so huge I couldn't miss. One of the three ships was going to get hit. The gawking ships must have seen my torpedo, as the destroyer and the merchant started to move. I missed the destroyer (my main target) and hit the merchant. However, the merchant was so hellbent on escaping that it ran over the destroyer and sunk it.

I surfaced, and this is where I wondered about the destroyers. I fired several rounds into a nearby destroyer and set it aflame. Since it wasn't fireing at me, I began to shoot at the tanker and the torpedoed freighter. I fired a few more at the destroyer and then alternated between the three ships. Then another destroyer showed up. It scored a few hits on my sub but overall it had appalling accuraccy. I sent it to the bottom before finishing up the tanker and the merchant. 2 warships sunk, 2 merchants sunk.

I'm curious if I should expect such fine seamanship in the career mode?

This is a well-documented bug. It's supposed to be addressed in patch 1.3 though.
