News from OpenSSN

I have a few things to report on from the OpenSSN project. Right now a lot of work in going into improving the AI and adding features to the mission code. What this means is that the AI should behave in a more reasonable (and hopefully dangerous) fashion and we will have some more interesting missions for you.

Some examples are:
The AI is now curious and, even if it can't hear enemies, it will investigate things which hint at enemies in the area. This means using radar, active sonar and firing torpedoes will cause the AI to react.

Code for escort missions is being added. This should give us some more difficult missions to play with.

Sonar code is being improved. Previously we had a pretty low limit as to how many vessels we could track on sonar. This limit has been removed and the colour trails on the sonar display should appear brighter now.

AI controlled subs used to randomly move to the surface, this has been corrected.

Changing depth used to take a long long time, especially at slow speeds. This has been corrected, making the submarine much more responsive.

In short things are coming along quite nicely for our next release.
If you have a mission idea or scenario or a ship/sub you'd like to see added to the game, please post about it here.
